When you think about most of the “reality” shows that are popular these days, they all tend to fall into certain categories. For example, you have all the “reality” shows that focus on celebrities, competition shows like Survivor or Big Brother, dating shows, TLC shows about abnormal people, and self-improvement series.

What some current “reality” show fanatics may not realize is that in the past, the networks were happy to be a lot more experimental. If you are looking for the perfect example of that, all you have to do is watch an episode of Jackass. While Jackass created many stars, it could easily be argued that at one point the most popular cast member was Bam Margera.

While Bam Margera no longer is in the spotlight the way he once was, many fans of his remain fascinated with him and keep on what he is up to now. Of course, tracking Margera’s exploits is more challenging now as he no longer is the star of a “reality” show, as he was at the peak of his fame. Of course, all good things must come to an end but when it comes to one of Margera’s shows, Bam’s Unholy Union, the series came to an end for an interesting reason.

An Unusual Entertainment Franchise

When Jackass’ debut episode aired for the first time in the year 2000, it is very safe to say that most viewers had never seen anything like it. Focused on a group of people that were willing to attempt dangerous or disgusting stunts, it was the kind of series that people either loved or couldn’t stand.

Easily among the most talked-about shows of the early 2000s, Jackass lasted three seasons and several of its stars went on to attain a great deal of fame. In fact, people like Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O became so popular that they all went on to make an awful lot of money. On top of that, Jackass was so popular that it spawned an entire franchise of spin-off movies and TV shows, many of which enjoyed great success.

Standing Out

When Jackass debuted on television, it was abundantly clear that Johnny Knoxville was meant to be the series’ main star. Over time, however, it could definitely be argued that his lead role was usurped by Bam Margera. Arguably the most charismatic Jackass cast member, Margera certainly had a quality about him that attracted viewers to him.

Once Jackass’ final new episode aired in 2002, it was clear that MTV hoped to create several shows that could take its place. For that reason, MTV hired Bam Margera to star in Viva La Bam, a show that helped to make him very rich as it was on the air for 5 seasons before it came to an end in 2006. Once Viva La Bam came to an end, MTV was still very interested in working with Bam but the story behind his next show is an amazing one.

Short-Lived Series

When Bam’s Unholy Union debuted on television in 2007, there was every reason in the world to think that the series would be on the air for a very long time. After all, it was abundantly clear that MTV loved to air shows that focused on Bam Margera since he’d developed an extremely loyal fanbase. When you then throw in the fact that Bam’s Unholy Union added a dash of romance into the successful Bam Margera show equation, the series had the potential to attract an all-new audience.

Unfortunately for everyone involved in the production of Bam’s Unholy Union, the series came to an end after its first season finished. As it turns out, however, at one point that wasn’t going to be the case as there were plans in the works to bring the series back including adding an incredible twist to the show.

Since the first season of Bam’s Unholy Union was focused on Margera getting married, it makes sense that the second season needed to have a similar storyline. That said, it is pretty amazing that according to Bam Margera, MTV wanted him and his new wife to pretend like they were expecting to have a baby. It is mind-boggling to imagine how things would have played out once no baby was born.

Ultimately, there is only one reason why Margera’s fans never got to see a second season of Bam’s Unholy Union, the people in charge of Pocopson Township. Considering the over-the-top antics that Bam Margera and his friends got into on-camera, it makes sense that people who lived near the MTV star got sick of it over time. Seemingly for that reason, the people in charge of Pocopson Township, where Margera lived, passed a bill that limited the filming and hosting of events on private property. For that reason, the show couldn’t be filmed at Bam’s house and all plans for the series to return were abandoned. Several years after Bam’s Unholy Union came to an end, Margera and his wife Missy Rothstein got divorced.
