Throughout the years, we've seen a number of athletes appear on SNL. In truth, the result isn't always a good one, however, it always brings in the viewers. Who can forget the likes of Peyton Manning and Michael Phelps on the show? Heck, Phelps tanked so bad that he lost out on a role to play 'Tarzan', one that could've changed the trajectory of his personal career.

Tom Brady would also appear on the show as the host many years ago. We'll look back on his hosting duties, along with taking a look at a certain skit that didn't make the show, though the writer at the time wishes it did.

Who knows, maybe Tom returns to the show at some point, and J.B. Smoove gets his wish.

He Appeared On 'SNL' In 2005

We turn the clock way back to April 16th of 2005, this was the night Tom Brady hosted SNL. Let's be honest, when athletes guest host, it isn't always the best outcome.

Some of the worst performances have been labeled as athletes on the show. The likes of Lance Amstrong and Ronda Rousey didn't leave the best impression and neither did Michael Phelps.

However, there were some positives in the past, including Peyton Manning who not only went down as one of the best athlete hosts but he gets the nod as one of the more iconic hosts in the show's recent history.

As for Tom Brady, his gig was very well-received and he was liked by his peers. During the years that followed, Tom admitted he would love to make a return in the hosting spot again.

"That was one of those experiences where I loved doing it and but then really realized how much I loved doing it after it was over and God, man, I wish I just took in every single moment of that because it is so unique and you never know if you're going to get those experiences again so it's nice to really go through them and enjoy them as much as you can, and I've done that with Saturday Night Live," he said.

Surely, he'll return to the show at some point. For the time being, let's look back at a certain sketch that never aired.

J.B. Smoove Revealed The Skit That Never Aired

At the time, J.B. Smoove was working as a writer behind the scenes on SNL. He recalls his experience with Brady, calling him and a great person to work with.

The 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' star discussed a certain skit that he had pitched for Tom.

Although it never made the air, Smoove would've wished otherwise. He recalls the details alongside CBS Boston.

"It was a sketch about a football player based in the ’30s or ’40s,” he explained. “So this guy was the first guy to smack another man on the ass after a good play. And nobody in the ’30s or ’40s understood why another man was smacking them on the ass after a good play."

"So he became like, this player who was traded to every team in the league because nobody understood why he kept smacking people on their ass after a touchdown, after a catch, after a fumble. He got carried away with it, so they traded his ass. It went too far when he started doing it in the shower.”

Smoove admitted that he was a huge fan of the sketch and that it could've been a classic. Nonetheless, the pitch never made it - this isn't the first time a sketch doesn't make the air and in truth, some that were released shouldn't have made it either.

SNL Had A Few Regrettable Skit

Looking back, it is safe to say SNL has had a few forgettable skits along with guest hosts. The show likely wishes they can erase Trump's hosting duties from their history, or who can forget the time Steve Seagal rubbed everyone the wrong way both on-camera and behind the scenes? Heck, even Rudy Giuliani hosted.

Certain sketches also fell flat, like Jimmy Fallon painting his face to imitate Chris Rock. Years later, the sketch caught up to Fallon and he would issue an apology for it.

"In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this. I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable."

Chris Rock diffused the situation, backing his good friend from any hate. Although SNL is a great platform, it can also create lots of controversies.
