However, for Dwayne Johnson, he took on a surgery that really isn't the norm in Hollywood, though surgeons have admitted that the trend is picking up among men. We'll take a look at what that surgery was and why The Rock decided to go for it.

Given how much emphasis he puts on his look and working out, we can understand why he decided to go for the surgery a few years back. Let's dive into and take a look as to what it was and why he did it.

Gym Freak From A Young Age

At the age of 12, Dwayne was already hitting the gym. A big part of his passion for the iron was his late father, Rocky Johnson. Early on, Dwayne would follow his dad and observe his routines at the gym.

"My dad was a workout beast and animal and he was built like a brick house," he shares. "I would always go to the gym with my dad and watch him on the weekends, but wasn't allowed to work out. so I'd just watch him and all his OG buddies in the gym, training hard and clang and bang, those old school dudes. S0 12 years old in Hawaii, my dad finally said, 'Alright you can come to the gym with me'," he shares.

Soon enough, DJ was walking in his dad's footsteps, hitting the gym religiously. It was his escape and ultimately, the place that boosted his confidence in a major way.

However, it might have caused some complications as well. DJ would develop gyno, which might be caused by either lowered testosterone, because of hitting the gym too hard, or, perhaps his family genetics. This condition caused DJ to go under the knife.

Going Under The Knife For Gynecomastia

It is a problem lots of men face and according to surgeons, the trend of fixing this problem is on the rise. Years ago, DJ took the surgery, removing his gyno issue. Take a look back at his chest during the '90s and early 2000s and it becomes clear rather quickly, a certain procedure did take place along the way.

In short, a lot of the fat was sucked out of his chest area, making it flat. The issue might've been an estrogen build-up, which can be genetic and not because of the use of enhancements. Though of course, enhancements don't help the cause.

DJ has taken on lots of other surgeries in the past though, by all accounts, that's the only one he did for his aesthetic looks.

He's Had Multiple Other Surgeries In The Past

DJ revealed on Instagram that it is important to recovery properly. Yes, working out is great, though there needs to be a grace period that allows one's body to recover properly. For DJ, working as a sports entertainer for many years, let's just say his body was at a bigger risk than others.

He revealed some of his injuries on IG.

"4 knee surgeries, Torn quadricep off my pelvis, Torn adductor off my pelvis, Triple hernia surgery, Ruptured Achilles’ tendon, Completely shoulder reconstruction, 3 low back disc herniations, 2 low back disc ruptures," the 48-year-old actor listed, adding, "It’s the daily reminder that we only have one body and we gotta take care of it…"

As if that wasn't tough enough, DJ also endured injuries while in the gym! Who can forget when he took that chain to the face during his workout, resulting in lots of blood to the precious money-making face!

Of course, DJ did not look overwhelmed in the slightest and if anything, he used it as fuel. Heck, he didn't even stop the workout and continued on like nothing was wrong.
