Adapting to motherhood after welcoming your first child is no easy task, and one celebrity who would know all about that is Katy Perry. The “Firework” hitmaker, who is currently serving as a judge on ABC’s American Idol, has admitted that following the birth of her daughter, Daisy, whom she shares with actor Orlando Bloom, Katy began making some drastic adjustments to her life.

For one, any free time that Katy had before welcoming Daisy was quite literally a thing of the past because the Grammy-nominated hitmaker has shared that she barely has a moment for herself these days, which doesn’t bother her, but it was a big change, nonetheless.

The 36-year-old has also shared that she’s stopped shaving her legs since becoming a mother because she simply didn’t have the time (and presumably the energy) to get rid of her body hair with a newborn baby acquiring all of her attention.

Why Did Katy Perry Stop Shaving Her Legs?

The Capitol-signed superstar made the revelation in an episode of American Idol in April 2020, admitting that shaving her legs is such a thing of the past for her.

“Your voice is a spiritual experience. It is other worldly, angelic,” she began. “As a new mother I don’t have very much time so I’ve quit shaving my legs. But when you sang, the hair on my legs grew an inch and a half. Full body chills! It was amazing.”

Host Ryan Seacrest was quick to chime in and joked that fellow judge Luke Bryan was “making sure you were telling the truth” following her surprise on-air revelation.

Katy, clearly unbothered by the reaction she received, raised her legs up on the judge’s table so the cameras could get a better look, and it appeared she was, in fact, telling the truth.

“She literally has leg hair,” Luke laughed to which Ryan continued, “Thank you for the forensic report.”

The “Teenage Dream” vocalist announced the birth of her daughter back in August 2020, the same month she would release her sixth studio album, Smile.

Despite the joyful news in her personal life, professionally, Katy’s career had taken yet another huge hit as her latest record failed to impress critics — and fans, for that matter — when it peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 200 after selling 50,000 units in its first week.

Smile, which featured the singles “Daisies,” “Smile,” and “Not the End of the World,” became Katy’s lowest-charting debut on the charts since the release of her first album, Katy Hudson, in March 2001.

Given that she was heavily pregnant in the weeks leading up to Smile’s release date, on top of the fact that a global pandemic had halted the world from interacting in person, there was only so much promotion Katy could do.

Still, it didn’t seem as if she was all that bothered about the moderate success her album fared because she had just welcomed the greatest joy of her life — little Daisy.

Katy appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Tonight in February 2021 to talk about the unusual way she had celebrated the release of her sixth album.

“You know, every other album cycle, there’d be some kind of celebration or party or dinner, whatever, you know,” the “Hot N Cold” songstress gushed.

“But this time, I was giving birth to the greatest gift of all for me, and then my album came out the next day, and I was in the hospital, and I could not wipe my own butt. I was like, ‘This is the most unusual album release day for me.’”

That same month, the California native had also engaged in an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, where she boldly admitted to being fit enough to return to work on American Idol just weeks after birthing her baby girl.

Though Katy was fully aware that she may need some additional time before she’d be ready to commence filming for the talent show, she described herself as being “fit” enough to get back on the judging panel.

But what she didn’t realize was how exhausted she’d be after spending the day on camera while breastfeeding her daughter during breaks, all while still healing from her baby’s birth.

“I did start filming ‘American Idol’ Season 4 after I’d given birth, five weeks later,” she noted.

“And I didn’t plan that, but it was like, ‘Oh, my god!’ It was so intense, you know? Giving birth, and then going back to work and breastfeeding, and going like — Holy crap! This is what women do? Oh my god!”
