Craig Ferguson was the type of late-night talk show host who didn't fake it. This is one of the many reasons why fans think he is precisely the type of late-night host we desperately need right now. In a world of Jimmy Fallons and Stephen Colberts, you need a guy who just goes out on TV and is, without question, himself. None of the pomp and circumstance, none of the Youtube-gag gimmicks (ahem... ahem... James Corden), and none of the pandering to uninteresting guests... That's precisely what Craig did on his beloved Late Late Show from 2004 - 2015.

When Craig wasn't interested in something on his show, it was obvious. Of course, he was charming about it, but he still seemed bored... and that was funny. On the other hand, when he was engaged, he was absolutely present. You can see the former Late Late Show host in his prime when he's sitting across from his buddy Robin Williams or during his Peabody Award-winning interview with Desmond Tutu. This is because both of these guests were fascinating individuals but also embodied some of Craig's biggest interests. The same is true for one of the most enigmatic personalities in the film industry... Quentin Tarantino...

Their Love Of Movies Brought Craig And Quentin Together

One of the things that average Craig Ferguson fans may not know about the Scottish funnyman is that he is actually a huge film buff. Of course, Craig also had a career writing screenplays and even directed his own movie, Saving Grace. There's no doubt that his love for all things film drew him to Quentin Tarantino, a guest who appeared on The Late Late Show at least five times. But unlike other film directors who have appeared on the show, Craig and Quentin really appeared to hit it off.

While Craig was probably thrilled to sit with any acclaimed director, Quentin appeared to have been held in a different category. Thanks to Quentin's appearances on The Late Late Show, it seems as though the answer to why has to do with his infectious adoration. The man just loves making movies.

"You have more fun than you should be allowed making your films," Craig said to Quentin during his very first appearance on the show in 2007. "You know, it's really fun for you. Everybody who has been on your movies that has come in here has been like, 'We've had such a great time!'."

"My whole thing is that we're just kids running away with the circus. As hard as we work, we have no excuse to complain," Quentin responded.

On top of Quentin's unparalleled love for making movies, his love for watching them is even more extreme. And he's basically a walking film encyclopedia. The references that fly out of his mouth are usually quite obscure but are spoken with a passion that even someone who knows nothing about what he's talking about would be fascinated.

But Craig did and does know the references. His film knowledge is near as good. And this leads to great banter...

Quentin Clearly Loved Coming On The Late Late Show

The entertainment value of the back and forth between Craig and Quentin during their many chats was undeniable. In one interview, the two of them spoke at length about The Great Escape despite the fact that many people watching at home probably have never even sat through the 1963 flick. And yet, the two of them riffed about the supporting Scottish character, a number of obscure lines, and even some Steve McQueen trivia.

Quentin clearly loved chatting about movies with Craig, according to many Reddit fans who have analyzed his appearances. Not only would Craig authentically praise Quentin's films, but he could also talk to him about his greatest passion with a similar level of passion. This was the complete opposite of Quentin's experiences on the vast majority of other talk shows.

While Quentin is never boring on a talk show, you can tell when he's having a good time or not. Nowadays, Quentin excels on shows like Joe Rogan's or Howard Stern's, as they give him more of a platform to just release his energy. However, the more mainstream shows talk shows don't offer him the same experience. But prior to 2015, Quentin clearly found himself at home on Craig's show. So much so that he even took part in a couple of comedy bits and filmed a segment for the final episode of Craig's show.

Even though we know very little about what the two men thought of each other as individuals, it's obvious that their shared interests allowed them to vibe.
