People are still divided about Dita Von Teese's statement on the abuse allegations faced by her ex-husband Marilyn Manson. "Please know that the details made public do not match my personal experience during our seven years together as a couple," she said. "Had they, I would not have married him in December 2005. I left 12 months later due to infidelity and drug abuse."

When they were still together, their life as a married couple wasn't as public as their style marriage—vintage burlesque dancer meets rock star straight out of a Tim Burton movie. They made dramatic red carpet moments and inspired people to be fashion risk-takers. But as it turned out, their relationship wasn't as wonderful.

Now that everyone's digging Marilyn's past relationships, let's take a close look at how his marriage with Dita was really like.

Their First Date Was In An All-Nude Bar

Marilyn Manson said he "kinda stalked" Dita Von Teese at first, pretending that he wanted her in a music video. Eventually, he asked her out and took her to Acropolis Steakhouse which was an all-nude bar in Portland, Oregon.

For many people, that sounds like an odd first date. But Marilyn simply knew that with Dita being the Queen of Burlesque, it was just the best, original date idea. It was actually a sweet and thoughtful gesture that probably got them off to a good start.

Marilyn Would Offer To Show Dita's Breasts As A Way To "Thank" People

On Marilyn and Dita's appearance on The New Tom Green Show in 2003, still as an unmarried couple, Tom brought up that Marilyn had asked him backstage if he wanted to see his girlfriend's breasts. "He does it to everybody," Dita shared. "And when he wants to thank someone, he'll say, 'here, show me your breasts.'"

When asked if she liked it when he'd say that, she just said, "Well you know, it's been three years [their relationship]." Marilyn cut in and said, "Everyone is happy when they see naked women. Makes the world a nicer place."

It was your typical cringe-worthy early 2000s interview that wouldn't make it in 2021. Tom asked the couple if they'd like to make out on camera and if Dita could give Tom's co-host a lap dance. Fans thought it was respectful to Dita and that for the record, it wasn't Marilyn who was being creepy in that interview. "How is there a talk show so odd that Marilyn seems normal," one fan said in the YouTube video comments.

Dita Had High Hopes For The Marriage

"I loved him very much, and when I married him I completely believed it would be forever," Dita told The Telegraph about her marriage to Marilyn. "But that’s not what happened." In the same interview, she said that she tried to convince the rock star to drop his party lifestyle but he refused to. Dita said that instead, he found someone else who was supportive of his lifestyle.

Despite rumors of being in an open relationship, Dita said that their marriage was very monogamous. She said they both believed in their commitment, tradition, and their vows. "But sometimes, people change their ideas I suppose," she said. That's when she decided to file for divorce.

There were speculations that Evan Rachel Wood was the reason the marriage ended since Marilyn immediately started dating her after the divorce. Dita only reacted with "no comment." But fans still couldn't help but assume that it was Evan Rachel who came along to support Marilyn's lifestyle when Dita was already giving him an ultimatum against it.

But after everything that happened in their marriage, Marilyn and Dita managed to stay on good terms after their divorce.
