Fans have been excited about a Younger spin-off about Kelsey Peters, as the character is an inspiring and successful young editor in NYC. Fans have looked forward to season 7 of the show and since it's currently streaming, they get the chance to see how Liza, Kelsey, Charles, Maggie, Lauren, Diana, and Josh wrap up their story arcs.

It's fun to hear about what it was like when stars auditioned for the TV role that made them famous. Sutton Foster has a lot to share about her audition for Younger, particularly the outfit that she wore, and it's really interesting to learn about it. Let's take a look at this audition that won her the role of Liza Miller on Younger.

Sutton Foster's Audition

Younger is based on a book about a 40-something woman pretending to be in her 20's so she can work in publishing in New York City.

Sutton Foster appeared on Glamour's "What I Wore When" podcast and talked about auditioning for Younger.

Foster said that she was starring on Bunheads when she got the script for Younger. She learned that Bunheads was canceled and wouldn't get another season, and she said that when she read the Younger script, she read it standing up in her kitchen, and she felt that this job would work well for her.

She said, "I knew that I needed to show them that I could pull of being someone in her 20s, looking like she was in her 20s, and looking like she was in her 40s." She explained that she found "the perfect little black dress" from Dolce and Gabanna in her closet and she went to some thrift stores on Ventura Avenue with her best friend and got a small Marc Jacobs tweed jacket.

She talked about her determination to win the role of Liza Miller and how she hired someone to do her makeup and hair. She wanted to make sure that it was a great audition.

It's fascinating to hear about Sutton Foster's audition as she dressed the part. When she had to portray Liza as a twentysomething, she took her hair down and showed that she could look younger. This sounds like a great idea.

Sutton Foster shared that this is the role she has wanted the most.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the final sesaon, she explained,  "I remember getting the script and immediately I was like, 'Oh Darren Star!' I just remember thinking, 'I think I might be able to pull this off…' Then I was determined. I'd never wanted a job more, but never in a million years would I have imagined seven years… It's wild."

Foster told Buzzfeed News that Liza Miller's decision to pretend to be in her 20's made a lot of sense to her, as she had just played Michelle on Bunheads who she described as "holding onto her lost youth." She also said that she finds Liza to be totally relatable as Liza is kind of all over the place, embodying a "carefree" twentysomething lifestyle while having to deal with real life because she's actually in her 40's.

It sounds like Sutton Foster's Younger audition was an amazing one, in contrast to a story that she tells about going out for another role.

According to Variety.com, Foster said that in the '90s, she wanted to get a part in the Annie revival and it didn't go well at all.

Foster said, “I was auditioning for the revival of ‘Annie’ back in 1996. I came in and the only sheet music I had was ‘Oklahoma.’ I had on horrible Velcro sandals because it was the ’90s. The director said, ‘I want you to come back. I want you to sing a different song. And, I want you to wear different shoes. And, please bring a picture and resume,’ since I didn’t have one.”
