Whether it's for the hilarious "family" memes or the questionable space scene, Fast 9 has recently taken the world by storm.

However, things were not always running smoothly in the Fast & Furious camp. There are some untold behind-the-scenes stories that flawed the action flick, involving the franchise's two biggest stars: Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The two have been exchanging a perplexing love-hate story over the years, and now, it seems like they're ready to bury the hatchet.

"I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me," The Rock told The Hollywood Reporter, seemingly confirming that he's leaving the franchise.

Here's a simplified timeline of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson's relationship.

9 They Shared The Stage For The First Time In 2011's 'Fast Five'

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson shared the stage for the first time in Fast Five in 2011. At the time, the Fast & Furious was already one of the most bonafide franchises in Hollywood, and with Johnson's addition as Luke Hobbs, things seemed unstoppable for the family.

Interestingly, Vin Diesel, who served as one of the film's producers, developed the character with another actor in mind (Tommy Lee Jones) but changed his mind after reading feedback on his Facebook page.

8 They Were Even Nominated For 'Best Chemistry' At The Teen Choice Award In 2013

Later on, the two continued to share the stage in the next Fast & Furious films, at least until The Fate of the Furious in 2017. They were even nominated for "Best Chemistry" alongside the late Paul Walker at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. They might have lost to Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy from The Heat, but they brought in Fast & Furious 6 was impeccable.

7 Things Got Heated With Dwayne Johnson's Instagram Post

The beef started in 2016, when Dwayne Johnson, in a now-deleted Instagram rant, called out a fellow castmate. Although he didn't namedrop anyone at the time, TMZ later confirmed Vin Diesel as the subject of the post.

"Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't. The ones that don't are too chicken s--t to do anything about it anyway. Candy a--es," he wrote, word by word. "When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling—you're right."

6 Their 'Secret Camp' & Dwayne Johnson Being Dismissed From The Films

As also noted by TMZ, the two have met in person to resolve the feud just weeks before the filming of Fast 8 wrapped up. To put it short, Vin Diesel, who served as the poster boy and the producer of the franchise, has made decisions that didn't sit right with the former WWE Champion. Even the entire cast was reportedly angry at The Rock for causing the stir. He was allegedly upset for being slightly dismissed from the films.

5 Their Costar, Michelle Rodriguez, Confirmed The Feud

"Any human being who knows what men are like knows to stay out [of those] situations and let them figure it out," Michelle Rodriguez, the actress behind Letty Ortiz in Fast & Furious, weighed her opinion on the beef. "That is bigger than all of us. It is bigger than me, it’s bigger than Vin, it’s bigger than Dwayne, and all of us involved."

4 Vin Diesel Downplayed The Feud

However, despite their creative differences, Vin Diesel still talks highly about his former co-star.

"I don't think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way," he told USA Today. "I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don't think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he's Uncle Dwayne."

3 It Has Also Shaped This 'Fast & Furious' Storyline

Unfortunately, this feud also affects the way the Fast & Furious storyline played out. Although Vin Diesel refused to namedrop any individual that caused the Fast 9's release date to be pushed back for the first time (before COVID-19 hit), many believed it was Dwayne Johnson. He ended up having his own spin-off film, titled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

"Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU," fellow costar Tyrese Gibson sarcastically took to Instagram to put the blame on the former wrestler.

2 Dwayne Johnson Has Finally Let Go Of Whatever Grudge He's Held Against Vin Diesel

Now, it appears as though The Rock has finally let go of whatever grudge he's holding against Vin Diesel and the rest of the cast members. After Hobbs & Shaw became a massive box office success, he took to IGTV to thank Vin Diesel and numerous parties involved in the film's success, "Lastly, but not least, I want to thank brother Vin for your support of Hobbs & Shaw."

"I'll be seeing you soon, Toretto," he added.

1 Vin Diesel Broke His Silence About The Feud On The Cover Of 'Men's Health' Magazine

Soon after Fast 9 hit the premiere, Vin Diesel, on the cover of Men's Health magazine, addressed the feud between him and his former co-star, citing "tough love" numerous times.

"My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be," he said. "I could give a lot of tough love. Not Fellini-esque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing."

As the franchise is coming to an end with Fast 10 and Fast 11 and Han's revival, could this mean a full family reunion in the hindsight? Nobody knows, but apparently as previously mentioned, The Rock has revealed that he's left the franchise for good.
