The Weeknd is back with a new album, and possibly the confirmation of his rumored romance to megastar Angelina Jolie.
The Canadian singer-songwriter (real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) has just released a fifth studio album titled 'Dawn FM'. In one track of this new, hotly anticipated work, The Weeknd seems to be hinting at a love story with "a movie star". Could he be referring to Jolie?
The Weeknd Seemingly Refers To Angelina Jolie In New Song
The rumored couple was first spotted on a dinner date months ago, sparking speculations about them being more than just friends.
In new song 'Here We Go Again,' released on January 7 with the rest of the album, The Weeknd seemed to be referring to the 'Eternals' star in a line (and also included a nod to cult slasher film 'Scream').
"My new girl, she a movie star. I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell, but when I make her laugh, swear it cures my depressin’ thoughts, cause baby girl, she a movie star, baby girl, she a movie star," he sings.
With a net worth of $120 million and several accolades under her belt, Jolie is an undeniable movie star. Not just an actress, but an accomplished director and producer, Jolie has been romantically linked to Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt in the past. With Pitt, Jolie is in a legal battle over the custody of their six children.
The Weeknd Has Written About Jolie Before
Despite the reference seems to be confirming the rumors about the maybe couple, there is no assurance The Weeknd is actually talking about Jolie.
Previously linked to Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid, The Weeknd has been single for a while now, hence the mad speculations about him and Jolie.
The singer and the actress were first seen together in June 2021 as they were leaving a restaurant after a dinner date.
They were spotted together months later, leaving the same restaurant in September last year. According to reports, they hit luxury Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, where the two spent two-and-a-half hours dining together before leaving and entering a black SUV.
While sightings of them have been quiet for a while, the lyrics of The Weeknd's new song have reignited the rumor mill around the couple.
This wouldn't be the first time the Toronto-born singer refers to Jolie in one of his songs, after all.
His track 'Party Monster' featured a reference to Jolie as well as his former girlfriend Gomez, with the lyrics reading: "Angelina, lips like Angelina / Like Selena, a** shaped like Selena."
