You can’t always tell who has a disability and who doesn’t. So many people have this misconception that only people who use wheelchairs have a disability. Although that might be the case for some people, others might have a disability you can’t see such as a chronic illness or a learning disability. That includes famous celebrities you see on TV all the time.

Legendary Hollywood names such as Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, Avril Lavigne, and Lil Wayne all have disabilities. They did whatever it took to make it in Hollywood and their disabilities helped didn't stop them from becoming the huge stars they are now. Here are 10 celebrities that you probably didn’t know have disabilities.

10 Lady Gaga

A few years ago Lady Gaga revealed that she has fibromyalgia. It's a chronic illness that causes pain all over the body along with  muscle stiffness, sleeping problems, trouble concentrating, and extreme tiredness. According to Cosmopolitan Magazine, "Lady Gaga opened up about her experience with the illness for the first time in her 2017 Netflix documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two. She was also forced to cancel a concert in Brazil because she was taken to hospital with 'severe pain.'"

9 Gigi Hadid

It turns out that one of the most famous Victoria's Secret models has a disability. Gigi has a chronic illness called Hashimoto's disease (AKA chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis), which causes fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and hair loss. For some people it causes weight gain too, but it made Gigi lose weight. She told Elle, "My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto's disease. It's a thyroid disease, and it's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn't want to lose any more weight."

8 Michael J. Fox

Most people know him as Marty McFly, but when he’s not travelling through time in Back To The Future, he’s using his fame and fortune for good. Michael was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1998 and has become a passionate advocate for others with the same disability since then. Two years after his diagnosis, he founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which is now the largest nonprofit funder for Parkinson’s disease research in the world.

7 Nick Jonas

Along with creating hit songs with his brothers, he's also starred in movies and has become a huge celebrity over the years. Before the Jonas brothers made it, Nick was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 13. "Type 1 only accounts for around 10 per cent of all people who have diabetes. It is an autoimmune disorder, which is not caused by lifestyle factors. Jonas wears an insulin pump to treat his condition," according to Cosmopolitan Magazine. He's now using his fame to help other people with the same disability and created a diabetes charity in 2015.

According to 101 Mobility, “She is an active and passionate advocate for Down Syndrome awareness, and has served on the ARC Governmental Affairs Committee for the State of Texas. She had a big role in changing Texas’ legislative language regarding intellectual disabilities.”

5 Selena Gomez

Selena was a Disney Channel star for years as a kid, but is still one of the most popular singers as an adult. She revealed in 2015 that she was diagnosed with Lupus and she had to get chemotherapy. Some fans thought she took a break because she had an addiction, but they had no idea what she was really going through. She told Billboard, "That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a**holes.'" Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can cause fatigue, rashes, and joint pain, but Selena got a kidney transplant from her friend in 2017 to help her symptoms.

In an interview with the Child Mind Institute, he said, “The gift of dyslexia was that I learned everything forward and backward, inside out, so I was fully prepared. I had to learn everything so that I wouldn’t have stage fright or the lines wouldn’t fall out of my mind.” Like a lot of other people with disabilities, his disability has become an advantage and helped him become a better person and actor.

Lil Wayne might be the most famous rapper of our lifetime. You probably didn't know that he has epilepsy though. He has seizures all the time and he's had them so much that the people in his life know what to do when he has them. Wizards have disabilities too. Daniel is known all over the world for playing the infamous wizard, Harry Potter, in the film adaptation of the Harry Potter series. The actor grew up with dyspraxia his entire life, which is a neurological disorder that affects motor skill development. "I was having a hard time at school, in terms of being crap at everything, with no discernible talent,” he told ABC News.
