While some fans aren't willing to admit it, pro wrestling and mixed martial arts are pretty closely aligned. Whether or not they've got similar fanbases is a different matter, but let's face it, we've all seen how many fighters and superstars have jumped from one of these two professions to the other.

Some crash and burn, which is a fairly standard thing to see happen these days, whereas others are able to thrive in ways that we couldn't have imagined.

Today, we want to take a look at 14 fighters who - in one way or another - have been linked with a jump into the squared circle.

Many MMA stars are often ridiculed for making such a move in their career, when in reality, it makes all the sense in the world. As they get older they're just sick of being punched in the face, and instead, they decide to shift over into pro wrestling - which is still incredibly tough.

14 Paige VanZant

While Paige may be interested in the idea of pushing forward with her MMA career, it's safe to say that there is a decent chance she will end up in WWE. We've seen the rumors, she's open to the idea, and she certainly has the kind of marketability that they would enjoy over there.

13 Colby Covington

It's impossible to ignore the joy that Colby Covington has when he is constantly playing the role of the 'heel' in the UFC. In recent weeks he's even been calling out Drew McIntyre, who currently holds the WWE Championship, proving that he wants to make a run in WWE one day.

12 Jon Jones

Everyone probably thinks that Jon Jones would make an impact as a legitimate bad guy in WWE, and they're right. He has proven himself to be the lowest of the low on numerous occasions, and it's about time that WWE goes ahead and capitalizes on that by putting him in the spotlight.

11 Israel Adesanya

The guy pulls off WWE finishing moves when he's doing open workouts. How can you not love him? He's one of the most charismatic stars that the Ultimate Fighting Championship has ever seen, and when he's done with the middleweights and Jon Jones, he should make the move over to the graps.

10 CM Punk

He may not be active, but CM Punk has two fights in the UFC and there's no way of getting around that. One day it'll make sense for him to return and go after that main event spot at WrestleMania he never had, and while he may not believe it's going to happen, we most certainly do.

9 Jorge Masvidal

Since rising to prominence in 2019, Jorge Masvidal has been teasing the idea of appearing on WWE television at some stage. He even had an interaction with Booker T that suggested he's even a fan of pro wrestling, and given what we know about him, that's actually a bit surprising.

8 Frank Mir

Frank Mir has openly pursued this idea in the past, but there's something so desperately interesting about the prospect of Mir vs Lesnar 3 in some kind of WWE setting. If they booked it differently to what they did for Brock's showdown with Cain Velasquez, it could be a whole lot of fun.

7 Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor and WWE should go together hand in hand, and it doesn't exactly take a genius to figure that out. The man is a money-making machine, and there is every chance that he goes on to have a very successful run in WWE once he finally decides to hang up his gloves for good.

6 Henry Cejudo

He's had some interactions with The Bella Twins and he's already been called out by Daniel Bryan - oh, and his 'cringe' character would fit in perfectly over in WWE. The second he loses his Bantamweight Championship, he should test the waters in pro wrestling. If he doesn't, it'd be a big mistake.

5 Cris Cyborg

It legitimately seemed as if we were going to see Cris Cyborg challenge Becky Lynch at SummerSlam once upon a time, but unfortunately, that never quite came to fruition. There isn't much left for her in the world of MMA aside from an Amanda Nunes rematch, and that seems unlikely, to say the least.

4 Arjan Bhullar

The self-proclaimed fan of professional wrestling, Arjan Bhullar, is good pals with Jinder Mahal and almost had Mahal accompany him to the cage for one of his fights in the UFC. Once he's done with his run in ONE Championship, he could form quite the tag team with The Maharaja.

3 Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier has openly admitted that he almost became a commentator for WWE, in addition to playing around with the idea of a feud with Brock Lesnar. Oh, and he was recorded celebrating wildly when Seth Rollins won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 31. What a guy, and what a commodity for the UFC.

2 Chuck Liddell

Chuck is often in the news for all the wrong reasons, and recently, he made some headlines once again by stating that he'd like to try his hand at competing for WWE. Whether or not the company would even entertain the idea, though, is pretty unlikely, even though it would be fun to see.

1 Tito Ortiz

While his failed run over in IMPACT Wrestling didn't really set the world on fire, Tito Ortiz is still the kind of household name that could make some waves in pro wrestling. He has nothing left to prove in mixed martial arts, so why not do something a bit different and give it a go?
