On Married at First Sight, the newly married pairs usually take the spotlight, with occasional cameos and in-the-moment interviews with the experts who matched them, offering the couples wisdom and feedback. As a result, we don't learn very much about the trio of experts over the course of a normal season. Who are these people, and what makes them so confident they can match strangers to be married?

Well, one of them is Dr. Pepper Schwartz (yes, she goes by Dr. Pepper, just like the soda), a sassy septuagenarian who uses humor and empathy to relate to the couples, always offering the perfect tidbit at the perfect time, a sort of guru of relationships and the communication required to make them lasting and fulfilling. But is she the real deal? It turns out, yes. While Married at First Sight might be her most public-facing gig, it's far from her most impressive one. She's got a colorful backstory and the wisdom of someone who's experienced a lot that life has to offer. Here are 10 things you didn't know about Dr. Pepper.

10 Yes, She's Really a Doctor!

Dr. Pepper has a Ph.D in sexology and has dedicated her life to furthering the fields of intimacy and sexuality. She is a professor of sociology at University of Washington. She's well decorated too. With degrees from Yale and Washington University of St. Louis and awards from the American Sociological Association, it's no wonder Law and Politics Magazine named her one of the Top 25 Smartest People in Washington State!

9 She's Written 25 Books

This woman is one of those types who really knows how to use all the hours in the day. We don't know how she found the time, but Dr. Pepper has authored or co-authored 25 books during her career as a sexologist, sociologist, researcher, and now, television personality. She covers all kinds of topics around intimacy, from sexy vacations couples should go on to talking to kids about sex to sex as a senior citizen.

8 She's Got a Wild Streak

Aren't we always told the best writing advice is "write what you know"? Well, Dr. Pepper has written 25 books about sex, so...you do the math. She regales interviewers with details from her sordid past, and a few of them are pretty wild. Apparently she once made love with a non-English-speaking bellhop in the ruins of the Parthenon, and she's had a lover smear chocolate cake on her naked chest before licking it off himself. Damn, Dr. Pepper!

7 She Writes a Sex Column for AARP Magazine

You can also find Dr. Pepper's writing in AARP Magazine, a magazine for senior citizens. She is the publication's love and sex expert and writes a regular column that aims to improve the lives of people aged 50 and up by strengthening their relationships and maintaining physical and emotional intimacy. While some see sex for the elderly as a taboo subject, Dr. Pepper doesn't shy away from any topic and promotes transparency around these often unmentioned issues.

6 She Was Interested in Sex From a Very Young Age

Dr. Pepper recalls that she's always known she was interested in sex, even from the age of 15. She remembers walking around thinking about sex all the time, and began exploring early. She prides herself on her sexual appetite that is more in line with what most would attribute to men, and says her appetite for sex is just as voracious now as it was in her earlier days.

5 She's a Consultant at PerfectMatch.Com

We may have been introduced to Dr. Pepper on Married at First Sight, but this is far from her first go at matchmaking. She co-developed the Duet Total Compatibility System, based on the Myers-Briggs personality test, for dating site perfectmatch.com and the site flourished for years, though it has now been shut down.

4 She Hasn't Always Gotten 'MAFS' Couples Exactly Right

In MAFS Season 12, fans were outraged at the narcissistic behavior of Chris Williams, a man who began emotionally abusing his new wife the very first night they were married - and it only got worse from there. Speaking to his wife, Paige, Dr. Pepper affirms her value as a partner and implores her "not to take that garbage." But a past contestant, who was also emotionally abused in her marriage, called out Dr. Pepper and the other experts for ignoring the red flags Chris displayed and letting him on the show anyway. We love you, Dr. Pepper, but...do better.

3 She's a Grandmother!

There aren't many details about Dr. Pepper's family life, but we know she is twice divorced and is presently married to her third husband. She is the proud mom of two grown children who each have little ones of their own. Imagine that your grandmother is the sex lady on TV! We can't tell if we envy her grandkids or not.

2 She Stays Active and Loves the Outdoors

When she's not teaching a class or filming a TV show, Dr. Pepper loves to spend time outdoors and remains active by walking, hiking, skiing and cycling. She credits nature and fresh air with helping her to decompress after a long day at work. Now that we know she loves sex and the outdoors, we'd wager she probably has plenty of outdoor sexual experiences that would make your jaw drop.

1 You Can Get a Cameo From Her

For about $50, you can get a friend or partner a Cameo from Dr. Pepper (pepper_schwartz is her handle on there). She offers her help in delivering some birthday wishes, executing a proposal, or just sending a friendly message. We don't know how Dr. Pepper finds the time to do all these things, but she does it all with grace and style!
