An Irish couple revealed to the world that they swap sides of the bed on a regular basis, and the world has responded by telling them they're strange.
As you go through a relationship with your partner, you go through various different phases. The honeymoon phase, moving in together, and maybe even getting married and having kids. You'll also tend to start following little rituals. Habits that you probably don't even notice until someone points them out to you.
That's what we're about to do right now. It is almost a universal truth that long-term couples have assigned sides of the bed. One of you sleeps on one side of the bed and your partner on the other. It was probably never discussed, it just panned out that way somehow. Your stuff is likely on the bedside table on your side, it just works.
However, Steve O'Rourke has recently thrown a spanner in those works. That's because after discovering at work that he and his partner Amy not having designated sides of the bed is strange, the Irishman took to Twitter. Suffice to say, he was not expecting the overwhelming amount of attention he has received. At the time of typing this, Steve's original tweet has been liked more than 5000 times and has more replies than we can count.
We were just chatting in work and apparently it's weird that Amy and I don't sleep on the same side of the bed every night. Some nights I like to sleep by the window, some nights the door. It's not really that unusual, is it?— EndDirectProvisionSteveORourke (@steveohrourke) March 22, 2019
As you might have already guessed, not many people are on Steve and Amy's side. Most of the replies lean toward people's minds being blown by this act, and some even questioning whether the Irish couple is from another planet. Due to the traction Steve's tweet has garnered, he has felt the need to respond. Since originally confessing his side-swapping antics, he has explained that they don't swap every night, and when they do, the items on their respective bedside tables come along with them.
Steve also revealed that when a swap occurs, the pillows also switch sides and the two of them have never disagreed over it. Although most of the internet is standing back and watching with their jaws on the floor, however, a select few have had their eyes opened. Some people have replied to Steve saying they didn't know this was an option, while others have admitted to napping on the "other side" and loving the experience.
