Adam Sandler has a reputation for appearing in (and producing) a lot of quirky movies. Not only does he always make sure to include a specific group of friends in his films, but the themes are often fairly offbeat.

Earlier in his career, of course, Adam produced a lot of R-rated, hilarious films. Nowadays, though, fans noticed a trend in the types of films he produces, and they have a theory about why.

Fans Say A Lot Of Adam's Work Is Juvenile

Some viewers of Adam Sandler's films complained about his more recent work being immature and juvenile, compared to past projects. It's true that some of his newer films, like 'Hotel Transylvania' (numbers one through three, but apparently not four), appeal to kids more than adults.

The thing is, films like 'Click' and 'Bedtime Story' appeal to a specific audience, and fans think Adam's choosing that audience on purpose.

The Theory Suggests Adam Is Filling Film Gaps

Fans think that Adam Sandler is purposely producing (and acting in) films that appeal to kids. It's not just PG movies and R-rated flicks that youth audiences watch, they reason, and it seems like Adam is filling the gap between kiddie-appropriate programming and expletive-filled grownup films.

The in-between movies are family-friendly, but they have enough laughs (and Sandler's friends) to keep the plot appealing to both kids and their parents. Not only that, but the movies aren't so inappropriate that they make parents cringe, but there can often be more adult jokes hidden in the punchlines.

Some fans specifically say that Sandler's more recent films "are targeting a middle school audience in that awkward phase of life between animated Disney films and rated R Borat comedy."

Is Adam Catering To Kids With His Movies?

It makes a lot of sense, especially since Adam has children of his own. Although his kids (and wife) often appear in Sandler's movies, they're just now getting to the age where they can watch his R-rated movies.

The actor's own kids might have been his inspiration for creating more kid-friendly content, but it's also probably a smart marketing move.

After all, family films are a big market, and adults who like Adam's non-PG work might gravitate toward him when choosing movies for their families. Besides, even if Adam's kids know that their dad makes raunchy and sometimes downright uncomfortable movies, they probably appreciate that he's got some range that isn't entirely embarrassing.

Then again, with Adam's net worth, he can kind of produce whatever films he wants. And there's no doubt his kids don't mind their dad's fame, regardless of the R-rated tag most of his work carries.
