Maria Menounos continues to be one of those ageless wonders, getting older in reverse as it appears currently in her 40s at the age of 42. Her tactics are quite different, she’s not pounding weights in the gym on a regular basis – as we’ll realize throughout the article, activity levels and watching what you eat are two biggest components on a daily basis. It isn't enough to simply hit the gym - being active throughout the day and watching what you eat are big components to maintaining low body fat.

Given her words with Too Fab, she also places a big emphasis on her hydration intake throughout the day, something a lot of us neglect;

“Drink hot water throughout the day. Sounds simple but it works. Sometimes when you think you are hungry, you're really dehydrated. Besides having a calming effect, drinking the hot water can help suppress your appetite. Plus, drinking hot water after eating helps digestion. Think of it as melting the food in your stomach. You can add lemon, as some experts believe that can help burn calories, too.”

From water to training to eating to even cheat meals, let’s take a look at what the TV host does to maintain her remarkable shape year after year. It all starts with keeping high activity, even if that doesn’t entail a day at the gym.

Keep Active Throughout The Day… Even If It Isn’t With A Workout

Surprisingly, Maria admitted that is she’s not training for a photoshoot, gym sessions are reduced to one or two days a week. She’ll find other ways however to stay active throughout the day, ensuring that she’s burning those calories;

“I don't have an official routine. Though I wish I did, I don't go to the gym often. Generally speaking, I find creative ways to squeeze in exercises during my daily living routine and I stay as active as I possibly can. I walk instead of drive. I opt for stairs instead of escalators. I also have an inexpensive pedometer that measures my daily steps. I strive to do 10,000 a day and whether I accomplish that or not, it's a reminder to try.”

Menounos would also admit that she has less time these days, though she still manages to make things work, something that wasn’t true during her darker and less busy days. She also credits hiking, volleyball, and basketball as other ways to maintain such a figure.

Of course, nutrition is also key – Maria does make mention that you need to love what you eat in order to sustain a healthy diet for the long run.

The Nutrition Part Is Key – Love What You Eat

She agrees abs are made in the kitchen. Though a crucial part that Maria admitted with Health, you need to develop a positive relationship with food for a lasting effect;

“Make sure you’re doing what you love in the fitness and eating right. Don’t force yourself to eat eggs every morning if you hate them. Don’t force yourself to go to the gym if you hate it. You won’t stick with it. Find something you love. For breakfast, I’m not an egg-white person, I hate egg whites. So I have smoothies. I don’t love the gym most of the time, but I really enjoy hikes, and I love Krav Maga a type of strength building and self-defense system first developed by the Israeli army. Find those things that you love and stick to them, that’s what’s going to work.”

Like anything else, setbacks do take place from time to time, like cheat meals. That shouldn’t be a reason to give up and if anything, Maria agrees, you can just jump back on the wagon if it does occur.

You Can Jump Off The Wagon

Maria is human like the rest of us and she has her own set of cheat meals she’ll turn to at times – just cause she deviates, it doesn’t mean that all progress is lost;

“I have so many. Potato skins, pizza, ice cream and beer. I just do my best to moderate my intake and balance my portions. Sometimes I do better than others. When I overindulge I just clean my diet up the next few days to balance it off.”

Balance is the biggest key and creating a healthy relationship with both food and exercise – those are the two keys that keep Maria grounded and it continues to shape her after all these years. You don’t need to spend hours in the gym – just keeping active can suffice.
