Matthew Perry rose to fame for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit show Friends, but many may not know that he is missing part of his middle finger. As a show that fans watch over and over again, it was only a matter of time until people caught on to Perry’s missing fingertip. While his on-screen character lost the tip of his toe, it appears as if Perry could resonate with having part of his finger gone, too!

With Matthew having undergone quite the journey over the course of his career, fans were happy to see him reunite with his Friends co-stars during the series reunion. Although the actor is doing better than ever, fans are still wondering what happened to his fingertip.

Updated on July 25th, 2021, by Michael Chaar: Matthew Perry made a name for himself as Chandler Bing on Friends. During his time on the show, fans began to notice that the actor was missing part of his fingertip. Well, this led Perry to share that he got his hand stuck in a car door as a kid, leading to his fingertip being, well...lacerated! While it never stopped him from pursuing acting, viewers were quick to take note. Today, the actor is doing better than ever following his journey through sobriety. Despite the successes in his career, Matthew Perry recently split up from his fiancé, Molly Hurwitz.

Matthew Perry's Accident

After speculation of what happened to his hand, Perry opened up about an accident he had as a child. When he was three years old, Perry shut a door on his hand.

While he spared the details of what could be considered a gruesome event, one could imagine it was not a pretty sight. His middle finger is missing the top inch of his fingertip and while it may not be wildly obvious, upon closer examination his middle finger is the same length as his pointer finger.

This minor mishap did not stop him from having a great acting and modeling career moving forward, and luckily so, considering he would go on to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Fans Began To Notice Perry's Finger

With such a long run and plenty of photoshoots and premiere appearances, it was only a matter of time before fans began to notice Perry’s missing fingertip. One fan created a collage of photographic evidence that proved something was slightly off about the actor’s right hand.

Eventually, others caught on and Reddit became a source of conversation over the matter as people began to debate and speculate over the oddly sized digit. Even IMDB added this fun fact into Perry’s trivia page so everyone would know.

The accident Perry suffered at a young age is now known among Friends fans and the like. Well, this actually ties into Perry's on-screen character, Chandler Bing, who lost part of his toe tip due to a past Thanksgiving disaster that led to a knife being dropped onto his foot. Talk about a coincidence!

What Is Matthew Perry Up To Today?

Perry remained in his signature role from 1994-2004 until the sitcom’s unfortunate conclusion. During his time on Friends, Perry stayed busy and starred in films like Fools Rush In, Almost Heroes, and The Whole Nine Yards alongside Bruce Willis.

After Friends, he continued to thrive in both television and film and as an avid video game fan, began doing voiceover work for video games, all while landing a series of leads, although a few did get canceled.

While his former co-stars went on to have stellar on-screen careers, Matthew had quite an up and down journey when it came to his sobriety. Although he's doing the best he ever has, fans still showed concern for the actor when he appeared at the Friends reunion.

Matthew was recently engaged to Molly Hurwitz, however, the couple officially split up this past June, with Perry claiming that "sometimes things just don't work out!"
