Miley Cyrus was just 14 years old when she landed her big break playing Hannah Montana in the Disney Channel comedy series, which ran from 2006 until 2011. But aside from the fact that her popularity on the TV show helped propel her booming music career, the singer also made a fortune thanks to her hefty salary fee.

Hannah Montana became such a success, it even led show bosses to commission a feature-length film, titled Hannah Montana: The Movie, in 2009, which went on to gross an astounding $155 million at the worldwide box office.

But how much did Miley actually pocket per episode from her time as the pop superstar?

Miley Cyrus’ Salary On ‘Hannah Montana’

When Miley was 11, she was approached to audition for an upcoming TV series on Disney Channel, and once she had landed the part, the “Mother’s Daughter” hitmaker told Elle in an interview that she didn’t even bother negotiating her deal.

According to Miley, she was just excited to be on television that she didn’t want there to be any chance of Disney giving the role to another actress over a disagreement concerning her salary fee.

After all, it wasn’t about the money for Miley, yet she knew that being part of the Disney family was going to open up doors for her regardless.

“I just wanted to be on TV,” she told the publication back in 2016. ”I mean, at one point—they’ll probably kill me for saying it—I was probably the least paid person in the [Hannah Montana] cast because I didn’t know any better.

“I was just like, I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it! My name was Miley on my show, but I didn’t own my name—we didn’t think about that.”

While it’s never been disclosed what Miley made in the show’s first run, several reports claim that by season two, she was earning a cool $15,000 per episode.

At that point, Disney Channel realized they had a hit on their hands, meaning that its lead star was evidently going to get a pay rise from whatever amount she made in season one, which Miley would have been happy about since she was at one point the lowest-earning cast member on the show.

Then, in June 2007, the 28-year-old released the soundtrack album, Hannah Montana 2, for the second season, which went on to sell an eye-watering 325,000 copies in its first week, subsequently earning the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 200.

The gigantic success on the charts gave Disney all the more reason to believe that investing money into the Hannah Montana brand was undoubtedly going to earn them millions in revenue, and that’s exactly what they ended up doing.

Ratings continued to soar for the show — even in its third season, when numbers in ratings were surpassing an average of more than 4.2 million weekly viewers, making Hannah Montana one of the biggest offerings on the network.

In April 2009, Walt Disney Pictures released Hannah Montana: The Movie, which pulled in $155 million worldwide, showing just how popular the brand had become over the years while there wasn’t one teenager at the time who hadn’t heard of Miley at that point.

She’d become a household name and a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

The fourth and final series of the hit situational comedy aired in 2010, and while fans were stunned by the announcement that Miley was looking to move on with her life — and from the character she’d been playing since she was a pre-teen — they were also excited to see what was next for the actress who’d already become a worldwide pop star when she quit.

In a candid chat with Elle, Miley recalled the moment she knew she no longer wanted to play Hannah Montana, revealing: “[O]nce I was 18 because it felt ridiculous.“

“The minute I had sex, I was kind of like, I can’t put the f*cking wig on again. It got weird. It just felt like … I was grown up.”

She then quipped: “One time I went backstage at Disneyland, and Peter Pan was smoking a cigarette. And I was like, ‘That’s me. That’s the kind of dreams I’m crushing.’ That’s how everyone felt with the bong video, but I’m not a Disney mascot. I’m a person.”

The same year that Miley quit Hannah Montana was the year a video of her smoking a bond had gone viral online — clearly, Miley knew she no longer represented the good girl image she’d been playing on Disney Channel, and she was ready to move on with her life.

Today, Miley is worth an incredible $160 million and her music career is just as successful as it was 10 years ago, with recent hits such as “Midnight Sky” and “Physical” lifted from her seventh studio album, Plastic Hearts.
