Throughout Hollywood history, there has been a long list of comedians who’ve tried their hand at acting. When that does happen, the results can be very unpredictable, to say the very least. After all, some comedians have gone on to enjoy great success as actors whereas others have failed on just about every level.

On the positive side of the ledger, comedians like Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Carrey, Steve Martin, and Lily Tomlin have gone on to become acting legends. When it comes to Dane Cook, it seems like he was never destined to become a critical darling when he took Hollywood by storm. Of course, it is moviegoers who ultimately decide whether or not a film succeeds which means their opinions matter a lot more. With that in mind, it begs an obvious question, which one of Dane Cook’s movies is the worst according to movie fans?

Cook’s Comedy Career

During the early-90s, Dane Cook decided to give standup comedy a try. Taking to the stage for the first time the year he turned twenty, some of Cook’s early gigs were disastrous but that is the kind of thing that all comedians go through. Willing to stick with it despite those early experiences, Cook eventually went on to find his voice.

After toiling around the standup comedy scene for many years, Dane Cook became an absolute sensation seemingly overnight. Since there have only been a handful of comedians who’ve been able to pack arenas and comedy is such a subjective medium, it was only a matter of time before Cook suffered a backlash. Despite the haters, Cook managed to amass a legion of loyal fans who listened to all of his albums and showed up to see him perform.

Even though some haters thought Dane Cook didn’t deserve all of the success he enjoyed in the standup world, the man deserves a huge amount of respect. After all, Cook overcame an incredibly oversized backlash and being completely betrayed by a family member he trusted completely. Still working hard to make people laugh to this day despite it all, it is great that Cook seems to be a very happy guy who enjoys the riches he earned.

Cook’s Acting Career

At the same time that Dane Cook was working on getting his standup comedy career off the ground, he was building up his filmography. In 1995, Cook made his acting debut in a long-forgotten ABC sitcom called Maybe This Time. In the years that followed, Cook would go on to land a handful of roles, including small parts in movies like Mystery Men and Stuck On You.

Once Dane Cook became a superstar in the standup comedy world, he took on a major role in 2005’s Waiting… and that was just the beginning of big things for him in Hollywood. During the mid-2000s, Cook’s acting career reached an all-time high when he starred in films like Dan in Real Life, Employee of the Month, Good Luck Chuck, and My Best Friend's Girl among others. More recently, Cook has continued to take on acting roles here and there but those announcements don’t receive the fanfare they once did.

Cook’s Worst Movie

Shortly before Dance Cook released his debut album and became an international superstar, the 1999 movie Simon Sez was released in theaters. Starring Dennis Rodman, in Simon Sez he played an Interpol agent who was tasked with gathering intel on the weapons trade in France. Cast as an old classmate of Rodman’s character, in Simon Sez Dane Cook gets his old peer to help him track down his employer’s daughter who has been kidnapped.

Released in 1999, Simon Sez was completely torn apart by critics upon its release and it holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes to this day. Of course, there have been a lot of movies that have succeeded even though the critics didn’t get them. Unfortunately for everyone involved with Simon Sez, however, the movie was a complete flop at the box office as well.

For several years now, users of the website Flickchart.com have been ranking movies against one another.
