In 2005, director Tim Burton took on the massive task of recreating the classic 1971 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. While it was a tall order, Burton and the cast of the 2005 remake created a widely supported film. Monetarily speaking, the remake was extremely successful. The film ended up raking in $475 million from the worldwide box office.

With the fame Johnny Depp had gained from his role in Pirates of the Caribbean, Tim Burton's decision to cast him as Willy Wonka turned out to be a great decision. 10 Johnny Depp – Willy Wonka

In the 2005 remake, Johnny Depp landed a leading role as the quirky factory owner Willy Wonka. Depp certainly had a lot to live up to as Gene Wilder had played the iconic character in the original 1971 film, but like in all of his acting gigs, Depp seemed to thrive. Since the filming of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Depp has been up to quite a lot. On the career side of things, Depp has joined the Harry Potter universe after being cast as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts movies.

9 Freddie Highmore – Charlie Bucket

Charlie Bucket, the star of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was played by Freddie Highmore in the 2005 film. Now 29-years-old, the former child star is still landing acting gigs today. From 2013 to 2017, Highmore played the well-known character of Norman Bates on the TV psychological horror drama Bates Motel. Since 2017, Highmore has been portraying Dr. Shaun Murphy, the leading character on the ABC television drama The Good Doctor.

8 Helena Bonham Carter – Mrs. Bucket

The mother of Charlie, Mrs. Bucket, is portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter in the 2005 film. After her role on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bonham Carter went on to land some pretty big acting gigs. Some of her most notable roles have been as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series and as the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland. Bonham Carter is currently in pre-production for two films, including Enola Holmes 2 and Not Bloody Likely.

7 Noah Taylor – Mr. Bucket

Opposite of Mrs. Bucket, Mr. Bucket is portrayed by Noah Taylor. The Australian actor has had a long and decorated acting career, landing his first big acting gig in the 1987 film The Year My Voice Broke. Since his time as Mr. Bucket on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Taylor has acquired roles in quite a few shows and movies. Along with obtaining roles on the television shows Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders in the 2010s, Taylor also played the role of Hitler, an inmate in hell, in the series Preacher from 2017 to 2019.

6 Jordan Fry – Mike Teavee

Along with Charlie Bucket, Mike Teavee is another child in the film to find a golden ticket from one of Willy Wonka's chocolate bars. The child actor to portray the character was Jordan Fry. While Fry's acting career has been pretty quiet since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fry is scheduled to be in two upcoming films, including Big LIfe and Byrd and the Bees.

5 Julia Winter – Veruca Salt

In the 2005 remake, Julia Winter plays the character of Veruca Salt. While Winter crushed her role as the obnoxious child of Veruca Salt, it seems that she became a so-called one-hit-wonder in the acting world. Winter actually walked away from the movie world for good after her role on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Not much is known about where the former child actress is today.

4 Philip Wiegratz – Augustus Gloop

Philip Wiegratz was the child actor who played Augustus Gloop, the boy who fell into Wonka's chocolate river and got sucked up by a tube. The role of Gloop in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was actually Wiegratz's very first acting gig. While Wiegratz landed a role in the historical drama Lore in 2013 and the German fantasy film Ruby Red in 2013, the actor has been on a hiatus since these appearances.

3 AnnaSophia Robb – Violet Beauregarde

After portraying the character of Violet Beauregarde in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, AnnaSophia Robb went on to land some pretty good acting gigs. Robb starred in the 2007 film Bridge to Terabithia as Leslie Burke and in the 2011 film Soul Surfer as Bethany Hamilton. Just recently, Robb gained the opportunity to star in Ed Sheeran's music video for his song "Shivers."

2 Missi Pyle – Mrs. Beauregarde

Missi Pyle portrays the mother of Violet Beauregarde, Mrs. Beauregard, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Pyle started her acting career long before her role as Mrs. Beauregard and has appeared in nearly 200 different film and television shows over the course of her acting career. Two of Pyle's most recent appearances have been in the 2021 television shows Y: The Last Man as Roxanne and A Tale Dark & Grimm as Widow Fischer.

1 Deep Roy – Oompa Loompas

Portraying the Oompa Loompas in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has become one of Deep Roy's most iconic roles in his acting career. Along with being active on Instagram and TikTok, Roy has obtained gigs in a number of television series and films since his role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One of Roy's most recent acting gigs was in the 2019 short Deep Into Love.
