In 2009, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were cast as Thor and Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a big decision for the studio to bring in two relatively unknown actors, or "no-names" as they were once referred to.

12 years later, it's easily the best decision they've made. Hemsworth and Hiddleston have popularized the characters and done right by their comic-book counterparts, bringing their acting skills and undeniable bromance to each performance. After starring in three Thor titles and multiple MCU films together, they will be next seen individually in Marvel's limited series Loki and the sequel to Thor: Ragnarok, titled Thor: Love and Thunder.

Tom Hiddleston Is All Praise For His Former Co-Star

In a virtual appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the actor promoted his ongoing series Loki and recounted an old memory, from the day he first met Hemsworth.

When Kimmel showed the actor a picture of him and Hemsworth meeting for the first time, Hiddleston explained: "That was 2009 and we just got cast, and it was the first time I met Chris and we were at Kenneth Branagh [the film's director] house in England."

"All I see when I look at that photo is inaccessible youth," the actor joked.

He then went on to share his first impression of Chris Hemsworth, revealing the first thought he had on seeing the actor. "My abiding memory of that day was Chris Hemsworth walking through the door, and my first thought was 'Oh, they cast the right actor'".

At the time, Hiddleston had auditioned for both roles of Thor and Loki, but was believed to be better suited for the role of the Asgardian God of Thunder's nemesis/brother.

The actor accepted their casting was a "big gamble" for the studio, but it had paid off. "It's true, they took a big gamble..and look what happened."

Kimmel shared his thoughts on the on-screen brothers' first photo together. He pointed out that Hemsworth looked like "a valet parker at Caesar's palace" in his flashy red and gold jacket. Hiddleston on the other hand sported a vintage dark green blazer.

The actor revealed that Thor's director, Kenneth Branagh had an idea and "went into an old wardrobe and pulled out these colors because Thor's cape is red and Loki's cape is green." He wanted to see what the actors would look like in their signature costumes!

Further talking about their odd outfits in the photo, Hiddleston said "those costumes are from his [Branagh's] movies of Henry V and Hamlet."
