Tiger Woods has been criticized after it emerged he won't be facing any criminal charges following his SUV crash in Southern California in February.
In a press conference yesterday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office revealed the pro golfer was traveling at almost double the speed limit of 45mph when he crashed.
Woods, 45, was knocked unconscious and suffered a cut to his jaw as well as "bruised right and left rib cage, fractured right tibia and fibula, possible right ankle injury," according to the crash report.
There was no evidence Woods had been impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
The World Golf Hall of Fame inductee was driving at 84 to 87mph on a downhill stretch of road outside Los Angeles when he hit a tree at 75mph on February 23, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
He did not receive a speeding tickets because no one witnessed Woods speeding. In the aftermath of the crash, the legendary golfer was seen wearing his seatbelt and the airbag had deployed.
Woods was "responsive and was able to speak" a deputy noted in the report - but said he was "acting in a manner consistent with someone suffering from shock."
Woods told paramedics that his right leg was "in a lot of pain when he was removed from the wreckage. First responders saw that Woods "had an open fracture mid-shaft on his right leg below the knee."
Officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said in the report that Woods "was somewhat combative when they were trying to treat him on scene."
Woods was taken by ambulance to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and was given morphine and Zofran for the pain. He was later transferred to Cedars Sinai hospital before he was allowed to return home last month.
He is in Florida recovering from multiple surgeries, including a lengthy procedure for shattered tibia and fibula bones in his lower right leg in multiple locations.
On Twitter Wednesday, Woods thanked the Good Samaritans who called 911, as well as the authorities and first responders who pulled him out of the car wreck.
"I will continue to focus on my recovery and family, and thank everyone for the overwhelming support and encouragement I've received throughout this very difficult time," Woods wrote in a statement posted after the news conference.
But social media commenters were furious that no action will be taken against the dad-of-two - despite the golfer speeding.
"Absolutely insane that no blood samples were taken. UTTERLY ABNORMAL," one person wrote.
'So now we have the Tiger Wood defense. 'Your honor my client is not guilty of hitting those people because nobody saw it, the wrecked car and other evidence is immaterial. I rest my case,'" another added.
"Wow so celebrity obviously does get you privilege," a third chimed in.
"So didn't breathalyse him because no evidence he was impaired....what about rolling his car going double the speed limit on a straight empty road?" a fourth commented.
