Being in the public eye inevitably means that the rich and famous are going to face immeasurable scrutiny. No celeb is safe from being on the receiving end of unwarranted hate. It's one of the prices of fame. As Tina Fey once said, "If you ever start to feel good about yourself, they have this thing called the internet." It doesn't matter if celebs lead a virtuous life free from any controversy, the haters have free reign regardless. In some instances the hate becomes too much, and this leads to celebrities quitting the internet.

10 Taylor Swift Had The Best Response To A Sexist Question

On the Grammys red carpet, Taylor Swift was asked a question that doesn't really belong in the 21st century. Interviewer Nancy O'Dell first drew attention to Swift's long legs, creepily commenting, "I just wanted to show the legs", before adding, "you're gonna walk home with more than maybe just a trophy tonight. I think lots of men." With a look of sheer astonishment, Swift hit back, "I'm not gonna walk home with any men tonight. I'm gonna go hang out with my friends and then I go home to the cats."

In 2017, a Twitter user got personal with Chrissy Teigen. Summer Steele Tweeted, "And what exactly is your job besides being a bully, rude, and married to John Legend?" Teigen caustically replied, "You just listed 3 jobs. You want me to have more than 3 jobs?" Sometimes semantics is the best way of hitting back at the haters.

Twitter trolls love nothing more than to tear down successful people to make themselves feel better. When a user commented "You're fat" under one of Kelly Clarkson's posts, she replied, "...and still ****ing awesome". Showing body shamers that you are happy and comfortable with your weight is the best way of shutting them up.

7 Greta Thunberg VS. Donald Trump

A septuagenarian making childish attacks against a teenager is not a good look, but Donald Trump seems to have a particular dislike for the Swedish climate change activist. At the height of Greta Thunberg's fame in 2019, Trump tweeted, "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!" But Thunberg had the best response: she edited her Twitter bio to read, "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."

It didn't end there, however, as Thunberg truly got her revenge on Trump when he was ousted from the White House, posting a photo of him on Instagram with the caption, "He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!" Ouch.

4 Gabourey Sibide Had This Brilliant Response To Nasty Comments

The Precious actress is renowned for her acerbic wit when dealing with online haters, from hitting back at those who have a problem with her cats to tackling body shamers. That's got to hurt.

When Trump supporters expressed their outage at the acting veteran's anti-Trump stance and vowed that they would never watch another of his movies, he quietened them down with some home truths. "If you never went to another movie I did in my life, I'm not going to lose any money", he told Esquire. Reminding trolls of your vast fame and fortune is a sure-fire way to shut them up.

2 Mindy Kaling Outsmarts A Troll

A troll took aim at Kaling's involvement in a new Scooby Doo series, Tweeting, "Starring Mindy Kaling?", accompanied by a gif from The Office featuring Michael Scott screaming, "NOOOO". But Kaling had the last laugh, replying, "I wrote the episode of The Office this gif is from". She owned that troll in style.

1 Amy Schumer Vs. A Mean Critic

Movie critic Jeff Wells made no attempts to disguise his dislike of comedian and actress Amy Schumer. Writing for Hollywood Elsewhere, he said that Schumer's movie Trainwreck would never be a success because she's "chubby", adding that "Schumer's wide facial features reminded me of a blonde Lou Costello around the time of Buck Privates, or Jennifer Aniston's somewhat heavier, not-as-lucky sister who watches a lot of TV."

Schumer hit back at the cruel comments with some much-needed body positivity. "I am a size 6 and have no plans of changing. This is it. Stay on or get off. Kisses!" Not only does she expose the absurdity of Wells' describing her as "chubby", but she devotes her comeback to self-love as opposed to descending to his malicious level.
