From 1997 until 2006, Tina Fey worked on Saturday Night Live as a writer, Weekend Update host, and cast member. In the years since that, Fey has returned to the show many times as she has taken on the role of host and regular guest star at various times. Given all of the time that Fey has spent working on SNL, she had the opportunity to interact with loads of celebrities who’d come in to host the popular series.

As the people who watch the show weekly will already know, there have been some spectacular Saturday Night Live hosts and some that were mediocre at best. While viewers are left to decide how funny each SNL host is, the people who work on the show are left to judge how great or awful each of them is behind the scenes. With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Tina Fey has some pretty strong opinions about some SNL hosts from the past. That said, it was pretty shocking to learn that Tina Fey clearly couldn’t stand one SNL host even though most people would have been able to relate to her opinion of that a-list star.

Tina Tells All

In 2006, Tina Fey made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show. These days, Howard Stern is best known for his willingness to speak out about his political beliefs and his ability to lead extremely incisive celebrity interviews. During the 2000s, however, Stern was still known as a shock jock so when he spoke to famous people, he often asked them pretty outrageous questions. As a result, there has been a long history of famous people saying some pretty amazing things during their appearances on The Howard Stern Show.

Since Tina Fey went on The Howard Stern Show back when it was a lot more shocking, it makes sense that she said some things she would almost certainly not say now during her 2006 appearance. For example, at one point in her 2006 conversation with Stern, Fey talked about her experiences dealing with the various Saturday Night Live hosts during her tenure on the show. At first, Fey explained that most SNL hosts were great to deal with.

“Like 99 percent of people, they come, they host the show, they’re coming to have a good time. 99 percent of them are on their best behavior, they’re great. And like, literally every four years you get one where you’re like ‘oh my god’.” After that, Howard Stern brought up what it was like when Paris Hilton hosted Saturday Night Live and Tina Fey didn’t hold back at all. “She’s a piece of s**t.”

Following Tina Fey’s first shocking comment about Paris Hilton, The Howard Stern Show news anchor and co-host Robin Quivers brought up the obvious. “What did she do that was so, I mean she should be grateful to be there.” Amazingly enough, Fey’s comments about Hilton got even worse from there.

“She takes herself super seriously She’s so dumb. She’s so proud of how dumb she is. And she, she looks like a tranny up close.” After those comments, Fey went on to say that Hilton refused to do certain sketches that would have made fun of her and that she locked herself in her dressing room. Fey also claimed that clumps of Hilton’s hair were falling out all over the place and that Paris mainly wanted to star in sketches mocking other stars she was feuding with at the time including Lindsay Lohan.

A Changed Perception Of Paris

Looking back at Tina Fey’s comments about Paris Hilton in 2006, they are pretty shocking. After all, most people wouldn’t expect Fey to be that harsh since she typically doesn’t conduct herself like that in public. However, Fey was far from the only person who didn’t like Hilton at that time. In fact, when Sarah Silverman referenced Hilton going to jail at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, the audience cheered even though Paris was present. It is important to note that Silverman later apologized for that incident and Hilton remarked that Sarah’s regret seemed genuine. Given that a crowd of people applauded Hilton going to prison, it is safe to say that a lot of people should be able to relate to having a very harsh opinion of Paris at that time.

Thankfully, over the last several years, people have begun to reexamine how society has treated certain stars. For example, following the release of a documentary that chronicled how Britney Spears was treated by the press, people were outraged by what she had gone through. Just before the perception of Spears was completely changed, Paris Hilton had a similar experience when a documentary about her titled This Is Paris was released. After all, that documentary revealed how smart and resourceful Hilton is while examining how cruelly she was treated in the past. Thanks in large part to that documentary, it seems safe to assume that if Tina Fey ranted about Hilton today, most people would react differently.
