Outside of film sets, Tom Cruise is a very private person. An example of this was Tom Cruise refusing to attend his daughter's wedding, given that it wouldn't put the spotlight on her. Although he paid for the entire ceremony, Cruise thought it was best that he didn't attend, and Kidman wasn't present either. Mimi Rogers and Tom Cruise have conflicting stories when it comes to their time together. According to Cruise, they met during the development of Top Gun. However, Rogers stated that the two were set up by mutual friends.

Things would end up in divorce between the two, and the joint statement left more questions than answers. "While there have been positive aspects to our marriage, there were some issues which could not be resolved even after working on them for a period of time"

Speaking alongside Playboy, Rogers would elaborate on what happened between the two. It is said that Cruise's desire to become a monk was a major reason for the split.

"Well, here's the real story. Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. At least for that period of time, it looked as though marriage wouldn't fit into his overall spiritual need."

Of course, Cruise kept quiet about the matter which is the theme of his career. Tom hardly ever talks about family and his personal life. That held true on their wedding day way back in 1987, as the two took part in a low-key ceremony nobody knew about.

Given the amount of attention the two were drawing after going out in public, they made the wise choice to get married in secret back in May of 1987. According to EW, Cruise kept the ceremony extremely small in New York, and would even keep it a secret for his own team, including the publicists.

EW writes, "The proceedings were more covert than a Stanley Kubrick shoot. On May 9, 1987, in a small, upstate New York ceremony, 24-year-old Tom Cruise quietly exchanged nuptial vows with Mimi Rogers, an actress six years his senior. Present were the actor’s mother, Mary Lee Mapother, and best man Emilio Estevez. Even Cruise’s publicist was reportedly kept in the dark."

Most are well aware that it wouldn't be the last time Tom Cruise walked down the aisle. In 1990 when Tom's divorce was finalized, he quickly remarried the same year to Nicole Kidman. The relationship lasted over a decade and following the divorce, the actor married Katie Holmes five years later in 2006.

This time around, Cruise wasn't keeping the wedding a secret and in fact, the Italian wedding was very much the opposite compared to his tiny New York ceremony in the '80s.

According to E News, the Italian wedding which took place in a castle was absolutely stunning. In terms of the guest list, things were the complete opposite, as it featured several A-listers.

"With a price tag that grand, Tom and Katie's wedding cemented itself in celebrity bridal history. From the cream of the crop Hollywood guest list and double wedding gowns to a dinner serenade by Andrea Bocelli, it seems no expense was spared on the night Holmes became Mrs. Tom Cruise," EW writes.

Broke Shields herself would admit that if an invitation was extended, there was no turning it down.

"If you get invited to that wedding, you go."

Among the high profile guests for the evening included, "Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, fellow Scientologists John Travolta and Kelly Preston, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, Jenny McCarthy and then-partner Jim Carrey, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez and former Scientologist Leah Remini."

Quite the cast of celebs, but we all know by now that after six years of marriage, the two would call it quits.
