Kim Kardashian West has won over her critics after she delivered a hilarious monologue at the start of her hosting duties on Saturday Night Live.

The former Keeping Up With The Kardashians star took aim at her family, estranged husband Kanye West and even her mom's boyfriend, Corey Gamble.

"I know, I'm surprised to see me here, too," Kardashian-West began her opening monologue after social media commenters initially blasted the show for hiring her.

"I mean, I haven't had a movie premiere in a really long time."

Wearing a bright pink body suit, the SKIMS founder recalled how it was her father, who introduced her to the first black person she had ever met.

It was the late attorney Robert Kardashian, who defended accused double-murderer O.J. Simpson in the 1990s.

"Want to take a stab in the dark at who it was?" she said with a chuckle.

Having known Simpson "it does leave a mark," she said. "Or several. Or none at all. I still don't know," she joked.

Simpson, a former NFL star, was acquitted of two counts of murder in the 1994 fatal stabbings of his ex-wife, Nicole Simpson, and Ronald Goldman.

A civil court jury found him liable and ordered him to pay $33.5 million - however the families of Simpson and Goldman claim they have not recieved a penny.

Kardashian, who is currently divorcing hip hop superstar Kanye West addressed the issue head on.

"I married the best rapper of all time," she said to applause. "The richest black man in America, a talented legit genius who gave me four incredible kids. When I divorce him you have to know it came down to one thing: his personality."

During the monologue Kardashian acknowledged the source of her initial fame which came when she was featured in a sex tape that was circulated in the mid-2000s before then taking aim at her momager, Kris Jenner.

"I haven't had a movie premiere in a really long time," Kardashian said with wink. "No one even told me it was premiering. It must've slipped by mom's mind."

She then joked that part of the reason she was hosting the comedy show was to be taken seriously as a person rather than a sex symbol.

"I'm so much more than just a pretty face. And good hair, and great makeup, and great boobs and a perfect butt," she teased.

"I'm so much more than the reference photos that my sisters showed their plastic surgeon," Kardashian joked.

"The one thing I'm really proud of is that no one could ever call me a gold digger, honestly, I'm not sure how you even become one. So I asked my mom's boyfriend, Corey," referring to Kris Jenner's longtime boyfriend, Corey Gamble.

Kardashian described the evening as "a chill intimate night" briefly referencing SNL's low audience figures of "10 million" compared to her Instagram account that has 258 million followers.

During the episode, Chris Rock, WWE star John Cena, Jesse Williams, Kardashian West's mother, Kris Jenner and sister Khloé Kardashian were all among the surprise guest appearances.
