Justin and Hailey Bieber are one of the more lovey-dovey celebrity couples on the red carpet. But the model recently revealed that despite what it may seem, it takes a lot of effort to make their marriage work.

During a cover interview for Harper’s Bazaar, Hailey explained that a lot of their challenges arise from life’s unexpected moments. “I just think life is changing all the time,” I think a perfect example of that is over the last six months, both of us have gone through very serious health issues. You have to figure out how to deal with this […] as it comes, you know?”

She added, “There’s a reason they say ‘for better or for worse.’ Like, that’s for real!”

Hailey Says Their Health Issues Challenged Their Relationship

Both Justin and Hailey have faced significant health challenges in the last year. In March, Hailey was hospitalized and underwent surgery after suffering a mini stroke caused by a blood clot. Justin was simultaneously dealing with an unknown illness until he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which he publicly revealed last month after having to cancel tour dates.

Continuing in the interview, Hailey said navigating their health challenges together brought them closer together and more appreciative of their marriage.

“He’s still the person that I wanna be rushing back to,” she continued. “At the end of the day, like, he’s my best friend, but it still does take a lot of work to make it work.”

Hailey added that she knows their marriage will be even more work when babies come into the picture (both her and Justin have been vocal about wanting to start a family). “I know eventually, when kids come in the picture, that’s going to be a whole other season of navigating how to make that work,” Hailey added.

This isn’t the first time Hailey has opened up about how her health issues impacted her marriage to Justin. In June, she discussed the topic on Good Morning America, revealing that the trying times ended up bringing them closer together.

I think the silver lining of it, honestly, is that it brings us a lot closer ‘cause you're going through this together,” she told the T.V. hosts. “You're being there for each other,” she continued. “You're supporting each other and there's just something that really bonds you through these times."

Justin and Hailey are approaching their fourth wedding anniversary in September. The couple tied the knot in 2018 after a months-long engagement following several years of dating on-and-off.
