A courageous trucker rescued two beagle mixes after they were tossed from a moving car on a New York highway.
Only awful people abandon beloved pets, but it takes a special kind of evil to literally toss them from the window of a speeding vehicle. That’s what happened to two beagle mixes last Wednesday who are both lucky to be alive thanks to the help of a dog-loving trucker.
The incident occurred last Wednesday morning when someone in a beat-up Dodge Durango tossed a 6-8-year-old beagle out the right rear window of the SUV, followed by a 1-year-old puppy. The trucker saw the whole thing happen from the seat of his big-rig and immediately performed an emergency stop to rescue the two puppers.
One of them, however, was badly hurt after being tossed from the Durango. The anonymous trucker gathered him up in his sweater and took him to his big rig to await highway patrol officers. Once they arrived, they splinted and bandaged his right front paw which had become badly mangled while the one-year-old pup ate a box of dog biscuits.
According to the Associated Press report, New York State Police are currently asking the public for assistance in identifying the horrible people that performed such a despicable act. So far the police have no leads beyond the trucker’s description of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the dogs were taken to the Broome County Humane Society to receive emergency medical treatment. The injured beagle was named Trooper, while the younger pup was named Adam after the trucker who rescued him.

Trooper certainly lived up to his name after surviving such a terrible fall, but the damage to his legs is severe. He suffered “a compound fracture of his distal radius and ulna on the front right leg,” according to the report, while his left front leg suffered a hairline fracture of the ulna. Trooper also got a few busted ribs and numerous contusions to his lungs and shoulder.
Adam walked away with a few scrapes, proving that puppies are mostly made out of rubber.
Both these animals will need to find new homes, and depending on Trooper’s recovery, he might have special needs for the rest of his life. Please consider either these precious beagles if you’re anywhere near the Broome County area.
