Jeffree Star has a past that's plenty colorful (mostly pink-hued, TBH), and one of the things that has fascinated fans for a long time is his relationship with Shane Dawson. Though Jeffree has debuted a handful of hunky BFs on his YouTube channel and elsewhere on social media, Shane has only been a friend all this time.
And yet, the two have had their fair share of drama. But how deep does their feud go, and are all the rumors about a falling out really true?
Since he earned his millions and grew to fame, Jeffree hasn't been able to leave the spotlight that follows him. Of course, it's not like he'd want to. He got rich in a fairly unconventional way, but he could probably retire from influencer life and retire quite comfortably at this point.
Still, Jeffree positions himself squarely in front of the camera every time some drama comes up or he has something new to share with fans. And sometimes, he takes to YouTube to refute accusations against him.
For example, after fellow YouTuber Tati Westbrook accused Jeffree and Shane of "gaslighting" her, the makeup brand Morphe dropped Star from its stores, and Jeffree eventually spoke out about the drama. Though, he did go MIA on YouTube for a while first.
It took some time, but Jeffree finally admitted that he'd made mistakes in his past and that he had regrets. That was in July of 2020, of course, and plenty can happen in a six-month timespan. But at that point, Jeffree said that he still supported Shane and that his pal still supported him, notes Paper Mag.
For reference, both Star and Dawson have been accused of inappropriate behavior, including but not limited to racism and gaslighting other YouTubers. The list of apparent offenses is super-long, but suffice it to say, getting dropped from Morphe was probably the least Jeffree could expect for his past actions that recently came to light.
But did all that drama take a toll on Star and Dawson's friendship? Fans speculate that it has.
Redditors suggest that Shane and Jeffree are no longer friends, with one fan stating that they're of the opinion that the famous makeup mogul's "friendship just kinda disintegrated on its own when karmageddon went down." Karmageddon, of course, refers to Jeffree being ousted for past bad behavior.
Another fan alleged that Jeffree only used Shane as long as it suited him, then tossed him aside when there were no longer lucrative opportunities based on their friendship. Yet another fan points out that though Shane recently liked an IG post of Jeffree's, the fact that Shane's merch on Jeffree Star Cosmetics was recently on sale (while nothing else was) speaks volumes about the pair's prior friendship.
