Rapper Iggy Azalea has announced she will be taking a few years off music, and Twitter fans seem to be either saddened and relieved.

Known for her hits "Fancy" and "Black Widow," the Australian artist has always had memorable music, but she has also always received mixed reviews from fans. She had commercial success for her early hits, and took home three Billboard Music Awards.

As time went on, her music began to decline in quality in the eyes of the public, and many used her songs as the punchlines or soundtracks to their jokes. She also became well-known for racist comments and for blackfishing - the practice of darkening one's skin and changing one's hair to appear as though you're of Black descent.

Because of this, people who have never been fans of hers have begun to express their opinions, and discuss how happy they are that Azalea will be temporarily leaving the music scene.

However, her fans have also continued to stick by her, talking about how successful she's been throughout her career.

Although Azalea has collaborated with various pop artists, fans had always wanted her to collaborate with Nicki Minaj, which is why one user is heartbroken to see her step away from music.

Azalea took to Twitter to announce her hiatus. Following her first tweet, she said,

"Shifting my energy and focus to what I'm most excited about is what is right for me and I hope you'll continue to support whatever creative projects I'm out here doing! I really love this album and I just want my fans to enjoy this with me. I hope I see so many of you on tour!"

Active since 2011, Azalea released her breakout hit "Fancy" with Charli XCX in 2014, following her second hit, "Black Widow," with Rita Ora five months later.

The songs came off her debut album, The New Classic. Although it received mixed reviews from critics and fans, it was a commercial success and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

Following this album, she released In My Defense in 2019, receiving negative reviews from fans and music critics. Her 2015 Great Escape Tour and 2019 Bad Girls Tour were both canceled, and the artist has since kept a low profile compared to other female rappers.

Although the rapper has amassed a fanbase, she is no stranger to controversy. Since 2012, people have had issues with her opinions on race relations and cultural appropriation, with some people comparing her accent to blackface. Her latest controversy includes accusations of 'blackfishing' for her latest music video.

Fans have continued to stick by her through this matter as well. However, Twitter users have also voiced negative opinions on this matter.

Azalea has not released too much about her future projects. However, she is excited to release her upcoming album and is ready to take on other challengers coming her way. She will also be the opening act for Pitbull during his I Feel Good Tour, which will begin on Aug. 20, 2021.
