Chris Pratt’s latest movie The Tomorrow War has been released digitally today (July 2) to very polarized reviews.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star features in a hybrid movie, combining sci-fi and military action, from director Chris McKay. The actor leads an ensemble including GLOW star Betty Gilpin and The Handmaid’s Tale actress Yvonne Strahovski, as well as J.K. Simmons.

Despite the excellent cast, the film about present-day soldiers sent to the future to fight an alien army has received mixed reviews from critics — and even more merciless comments from viewers on social media.

What Is ‘The Tomorrow War’ Starring Chris Pratt About?

Originally scheduled for theatrical release, the movie was acquired by Amazon Studios due to the Covid-19 pandemic and released digitally on Amazon Prime Video.

As per the official synopsis, biology teacher and Iraq war veteran Dan Forester (Pratt) is drafted to fight in a future war where the fate of humanity relies on his ability to confront his past.

The action starts in December 2022 as the World Cup is playing on television. The game is interrupted by soldiers from the year 2051 warning humanity of an alien invasion that is decimating the population. To fight this future menace, a world war draft begins and Forester is sent to the future. He will fight alongside his adult daughter, played by Strahovski.

Twitter Has No Mercy For ‘The Tomorrow War’ Starring Chris Pratt

Despite the intriguing, if a little derivative, premise, viewers weren’t sold on the movie.

“Good lord that Chris Pratt time-travel apocalypse alien invasion film is AWFUL,” one fan review reads.

“at this point, i will pay studios to never have to see chris pratt's face ever again,” one user tweeted.

“Absolutely haaaaaated THE TOMORROW WAR, sorry everyone. The PTSD subplot made me scream out loud with rage,” one film critic wrote.

“Chris Pratt should have shadowed a teacher to prepare for his role as a high school teacher trying to teach a generation that knows their future is bleak,” was another comment.

“Almost exactly 5 minutes into TOMORROW WAR, Chris Pratt’s character plops down on a couch and says, basically to camera, ‘I’m gonna do something important with my life!’” another viewer pointed out.

Others, however, seem to have enjoyed the nonsense sci-fi movie and praised Pratt and Strahovski’s performances.

“The Tomorrow War was really entertaining. @prattprattpratt and @Y_Strahovski really nailed it,” a fan wrote.
