When most of us think of Henry Cavill, we think of him as the latest tall, dark, handsome, and cleanly shaved Clark Kent. However, for the past few months the 34-year-old actor has been sporting a beautifully kept moustache for his latest role as August Walker in the upcoming Paramount Pictures movie, Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

The actor was so taken with the facial hair that he lovingly dubbed it KingStache, even allowing it to take over his Instagram at one point. "I have taken it upon myself to address you, my lovers and my haters...I shall be your king," read the comical post. Over the weekend however, KingStache's followers had a harsh awakening when a clean-cut Cavill took to the social media site to say goodbye to his upper-lip warmer. In a video complete with mood lighting, serious expressions, and an overtly somber tone, the actor addressed his audience.

"Oh, hello. Don't be alarmed: It's me, Henry Cavill, sometimes superhero and former secret agent," the debonair star said. "But now, I am completely clean shaven. I know it's hard to recognize me without KingStache. Sometimes, I even have trouble recognizing myself. It's hard for me to admit: This is not CGI. He's really gone. I can tell you this though, I will remember him, always." The picture then cuts to a heartwarming montage of the now defunct moustache, with a backing track of Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You." Finally, a note that said, "Shaved But Not Forgotten."

Warner Bros will undoubtedly be celebrating the end of KingStache's reign of terror, as it cost them a pretty penny to digitally remove it when some scenes of Justice League needed to be reshot when Cavill's two projects overlapped. The retouching was so awful that it shocked audiences, spawning memes, jokes, and a multitude of fun online. "This is really disturbing. The CGI reshoots of Henry Cavill as Superman in Justice League make him look like a human Shrek," wrote one Twitter user.

KingStache might be over, but at least we'll always have the memories to keep him alive. RIP little buddy.
