It was quite an adventure for Ashton Kutcher to 'become' Steve Jobs. Not only was the biopic film unlike most of his other career-defining Hollywood projects, but the role involved some intense preparation as well. But Kutcher, having prepared for 'The Butterfly Effect' in unique ways, knew a little something about getting ready.

Steve Jobs was an interesting person, both for the way he was able to conceptualize new products for Apple, but also in his personal philosophies and habits. And as it turned out, his eating habits were one of the sticking points that Ashton wanted to respect while preparing for the movie.

What Did Steve Jobs Eat?

Like many other actors who take on roles that require certain physical characteristics, Ashton Kutcher had to get his body in the right shape to portray Steve Jobs. But instead of bulking up, he sort of had to trim down.

Steve Jobs had a relatively slight build, but he also ate a specific diet for health and other reasons. In fact, sources say he followed a "fruitarian" diet that also involved recurring fasts and other 'extreme' habits.

For one thing, Steve had a "compulsion" to only eat fruit and vegetables, and he also went vegetarian and vegan at various points during his lifetime. In fact, he did swear off meat early on in his life (during college).

But why did Steve Jobs diet? It seems his inspiration came from various books he read about sustainable eating habits to promote healing. As many already know, Steve Jobs passed away from cancer which started in his pancreas.

Though his 'fruitarian' habits preceded the cancer diagnosis, it's possible that Jobs felt his heavily veggie and fruit-based diet would be beneficial for his overall health. But ultimately, he passed away due to cancer spreading throughout his body.

What Did Ashton Kutcher Eat To Play Steve Jobs?

Since Ashton was literally trying to 'become' Steve -- at least on screen -- he tried out the billionaire's offbeat eating habits. But it didn't turn out well, with some saying Ashton went too far in trying to imitate the famous Apple executive's lifestyle.

In fact, Kutcher wound up in the hospital while attempting Steve's diet. He had "pancreas problems," sources say, after sticking to a strict eating plan that included fruit, nuts, and seeds. While he was working on the movie, Kutcher reportedly fell ill because of what he was eating.

So is Ashton Kutcher vegan? It doesn't sound like it. Though Ashton admitted to trying Jobs' eating plan, he didn't stick with it. But though Kutcher called Steve's diet "fruitarian," Jobs' own remarks to his biographer indicate that he ate vegetables as well, and likely grains, too.

The bottom line is that Ashton did go the extra mile to resemble Steve both in spirit and appearance for the film. But he probably didn't make the healthiest choices to get there.
