Charlize Theron has been a part of Hollywood's elite for quite some time now. Her career began in the mid-1990s with films like Mighty Joe Young and Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest. She was able to solidify herself as an A-list actress following her Oscar for Monster. And while the South African-born beauty is essentially a household name and has done a great job expanding her career to include a long-term relationship modeling for J'adore perfumes, she still doesn't believe that she is as famous as she actually is.

Theron is well aware of her popularity and knows she is, in fact, a Hollywood star, but she believes that other people who have been in Hollywood less time than she has may have more pull or influence to make things happen.

Charlize Theron Has Compared Herself To Kim Kardashian

According to Theron, she feels like she's "at a place where it is what it is. Working more isn't, I think, going to change my level of fame. It just has always been a mediocre ride. I've never been one of those people that's at a Kim Kardashian level. But I feel like it's just always been this thing."

Charlize doubled down on this opinion in an interview she did with The Hollywood Reporter for a cover story. When asked to explain what she meant when she said she no longer has the same currency to get things made as she used to, she once again mentioned Kardashian's influence in Hollywood.

"The market is really different today, and the fame that worked 20 years ago, the fame that was cash in the bank, is different now. We are living in a time of reality television, and God knows I love me some reality TV."

She continues, "So, the marketplace of what Kim Kardashian represents-and not in a negative way because I watch everything that she does-has way more value than what Meryl Streep, one of the greatest actresses working, does. And that's just the truth. They have very different skills, but if you were Kim Kardashian, you'd probably get way more off the ground."

Whoopi Goldberg Disagrees With Theron's Opinion

Being a Kardashian certainly has its perks in the Hollywood sphere, Whoopi Goldberg doesn't necessarily agree with Theron's feelings about who may or may not have more pull in the industry, and doesn't believe that Kim K. has the pull that many long-time actors, like Meryl Streep, has.

Goldberg admits "I don't think that's true. Kim Kardashian. can't get a movie greenlit, or it would've happened. She can't do that. She can get television shows made, maybe, but that's about it. She can maybe be instrumental in helping things happen, but I'll tell you Charlize, you've got more pull in the industry than I've got in the industry."

She continues on with "You get stuff done faster than I can. Till took me 11 years. So, there are things there are people who can make things happen, but I don't know all that many people other than a lot of men who can get stuff greenlit like that."

And while one of Goldberg's co-hosts on the view, Joy Behar, pointed out Kim Kardashian's massive social media following, Whoopi still made the assessment that having massive popularity online does not necessarily mean that Kim K. can fill movie theater seats.

She goes on to say she isn't trying to minimize Kim as a person, but that Warner Brothers will likely not make a film just because she wants to get it done. Goldberg also makes it a point to end the interaction with respect for Kim Kardashian.

Goldberg applauds the Kardashian's ability to get certain things done, and how as a whole family, they were able to change the narrative of their family is viewed in Hollywood following some early scandals that helped their rise to fame.

Many Fans Agreed With Goldberg's Viewpoint

Kim Kardashian and the Kardashian family as a whole are always going to have a massive following and will likely stay popular for a very long time. The family has essentially built itself up with cosmetics lines, skin care, shapewear, reality TV shows, and even mobile games

They have partnerships with high-end brands like Balenciaga, and Kim K clearly had enough pull to be able to wear the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress to the Met Gala. The comments section of all of their socials are filled with people that idolize and look up to the family.

Even still, there are plenty of people who agree that, while Kim Kardashian and her family may be great for reality TV entertainment, acting or getting a movie done is likely not in the cards regardless of her influence.

Comments underneath articles reporting both Goldberg and Theron's opinions seem to all be in sync, with some saying that Kim's influence is simply just on young girls who think they can also become famous "for the sake of it."

Others go on to say that she likely buys followers, so her pull isn't as massive as it may seem, and even make mention of how fellow socialite Paris Hilton tried her hand at acting, and it didn't work out in her favor.
