Kanye West hires Camille Vasquez, the lawyer who gained global recognition for the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard case.

While the world watched as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard fought it out in court. One person stood out—Camille Vasquez. She represented Johnny Depp and quickly became a "fan favorite" for her strong will and snappy questions.

Vasquez helped Depp win against Heard in a defamation case. The trial was live-streamed, and many viewers tuning in took quite a liking to Vasquez. Videos of the lawyer questioning Heard were going viral, and many commemorated Vasquez on her ability to stay professional and classy.

Vasquez works for the firm Brown Rudnick and specializes in litigation and arbitration. Many speculated Depp and Vasquez were dating, but those rumors were quickly squashed when the lawyer stepped out with her boyfriend, Edward Owen—an England-based WeWork executive.

When the trial started, Vasquez was an associate of the firm, but after winning the case that awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, she made partner at her firm.

The artist, who now goes by "Ye," has come under fire after the rapper's problematic comments.

On October 17th, during an interview with Chris Cuomo on NewNation, the rapper criticized the so-called "Jewish underground media mafia," and claiming "every celebrity has Jewish people in their contract." He also alluded to his life being in danger from his Jewish accountant, managers, and lawyer because of his political beliefs.

When Ye went on Drink Champs, a podcast where "nothing is off limits after a few shots," he double-downed on his statements with Cuomo.

On October 6th, he appeared on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show. There, Ye claimed that Jews are actually black, and stating when he refers to Jews; he is saying, "the 12 lost tribes of Judah, the blood of Christ, who the people known as the race Black really are [sic]." He furthered his narrative of conspiratorial claims against Jewish people and identity.

He tweeted, on October 8th, "I'm a bit sleepy tonight, but when I wake up, I'm going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE. The funny thing is I actually can't be Anti-Semitic because black people are actually Jew also; you guys have toyed with me and tried to blackball anyone whoever opposes your agenda."

After the rapper tweeted this, Twitter suspended the rapper's account. A spokesperson for Twitter said they locked his account "due to a violation of Twitter's policies."

Also, during Paris Fashion Week for his Yeezy show, West sent models down the runway wearing "White Lives Matter" shirts. This sparked an outcry, not only in the fashion industry but in mainstream media.

Why Kanye West Needs a Lawyer

After all of Ye's comments, tweets, and designs, the rapper experienced an influx of companies cutting ties with him.

Adidas, who worked and collaborated on the Yeezy brand, announced they were no longer working with the star. "Ye's recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous, and they violate the company's values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness."

Footlocker has dropped the star saying, "not be supporting any future Yeezy product drops, and we have instructed our retail operators to pull any existing product from our shelves and digital sites."

Gap severed its contract with Ye in September but released a statement saying they have removed its Yeezy-branded website and is "taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap product from our stores...as antisemitism, racism and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values."

The luxury fashion house Balenciaga had a close relationship with West and even had him walk in its most recent fashion show released a statement, "has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist."

Studio MRC said they wouldn't release a completed documentary about the rapper, "We cannot support any content that amplifies his platform." Talent agency CAA and Def Jam—a Universal Music Group subsidiary, also dropped the star.

What Will Camille Vasquez Do for Kanye West?

After so many companies cutting ties with the rapper, he is facing a great deal of financial fallout because of his comments.
