Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder were among the biggest stars in the 90s. Prior to becoming famous, the two stars were apparently roommates while trying out their luck in the industry. The pair was inseparable and often seen together in public events during the late 90s. The pair frequently attended parties and film premieres together, even often seen occasionally holding hands while walking.

Aside from being great friends, Paltrow and Ryder were dating best friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, respectively. According to reports, Paltrow was the one who introduced Ryder and Damon in 1997 and this only solidified their friendship even more.

Winona Ryder had already made a name for herself at the time after starring in box office films such as Edward Scissorhands, Heathers, and Beetlejuice. Gwyneth Paltrow on the other hand had previously appeared in high profile films like Seven and Emma. The two Hollywood A-listers were both doing great on their careers and love life at the time.

However, things turned sour quickly for the two stars, before the public even knew it, their friendship was already over. Sadly, the friendship between the two celebrated actresses did not survive the 90s and so was Winona Ryder and Matt Damon’s romance.

Gwyneth Paltrow Reportedly Stole Something From Winona Ryder

According to reports, the reason the two stars stopped talking was because Paltrow stole something from Ryder. The Iron Man actress apparently came across the script for the film Shakespeare in Love while visiting the house of The Stranger Things star.

Paltrow got to read the script of the film and quickly fell in love with it. Some reports even claim that the actress sneakily stole the script from Ryder. After her visit to Ryder’s house, she reportedly called her agent and asked if they could get her an audition for the lead role of Viola de Lesseps.

It was reported that Ryder was due to get the part and was seething when she heard that Paltrow was selected as the lead for the 1998 film. Ryder allegedly started slandering Paltrow all over town because of what she did.

To make matters worse, Paltrow won an Oscars for Best Actress with her exemplary performance for the film. Paltrow winning the most coveted Academy Award for Best Actress added to the blow in their friendship that led to the end of their closeness.

Gwyneth Paltrow Denied Stealing Anything From Winona Ryder

The allegations were earnestly denied by the Goop founder. Paltrow dismissed the reports that she has stolen something from Ryder. She also denied taking away any role from the Edward Scissorhands star. During Paltrow’s 2015 interview with Howard Stern, she claimed that such allegations were just an urban myth and swore up and down that she will never do such thing.

She said "That's an urban myth. I swear to god I did not, I'm raising my right hand on the bible. I swear to god."

Prior to her 2015 interview, Paltrow referenced a former friend in her company’s newsletter back in 2009 which fans think was referring to Winona Ryder. She wrote "Back in the day, I had a 'frenemy' who, as it turned out, was pretty hell-bent on taking me down."

She continued "This person really did what they could to hurt me.. I was deeply upset, I was angry, I was all of those things you feel when you find out that someone you thought you liked was venomous and dangerous."

Goop also seemed to confirm that she haven’t spoken to Ryder in years and believes that Ryder’s jealousy towards her caused them to break up. Although there were also reports claiming that the two are friends again in recent years.
