It All Started At The Gym

Every good relationship starts with a sweet “how we met” story. How Yankees star Alexander Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis met doesn’t exactly provide the most romantic origin story. They didn’t meet on a film set, at a wedding or even at the bar. Instead, they met at the Body and Soul Gym in 1996.

At the time, Scurtis was doing her reps on the Stairmaster, when the All-star shortstop for the Seattle Mariners, asked her out. The Greek beauty rejected the baseball star at first, but eventually she gave in. A source from the Daily News revealed that A-Rod really loved “muscular women”, hence the reason he pursued Scurtis all those years ago.

Eventually, the two took their relationship to the next level. Six years later, on Scurtis’ 30th birthday, A-Rod popped the big question. Of course, the psychology therapist said “yes”, however, her family initially rejected their marriage because A-Rod wasn’t Greek. Luckily, Scurtis’ family came around. Her grandfather, famous Greek Orthodox Priest, Rev. Demosthenes Mekras, officiated their wedding. Making the moment all the more special, the two wed at Rodriguez’s Texas mansion in 2002. After having tied the knot and bringing families together, the two welcomed their daughters Natasha and Ella. Sounds like the former baseball player and psychology therapist had the perfect relationship.

The Divorce

However, their martial bliss came to a screeching halt in 2008 when Cynthia Scurtis filed for divorce. At the time, reports alleged that A-Rod committed infidelity. According to HollywoodLife, the baseball star hooked up with a Las Vegas stripper. Afterwards, sources reported that he had an affair with Madonna, who was married at the time as well. Of course, Madonna denied ever having romantic relations with A-Rod. However, Madonna’s claims weren’t enough to convince Cynthia Scurtis not to divorce the baseball star. According to ESPN, Scurtis’ petition for dissolution of marriage read, “The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband’s extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct.” While their marriage ended in shambles, their divorce proceedings were much worse.

Sources noted that A-Rod shelled out $115,000 to cover spousal and child support payments. For an entire decade, he had paid Scurtis a total of $13.8 million. However, according to a 2018 story published by PEOPLE magazine, A-Rod asked for a decrease in payments. The former baseball player noted that he didn’t mind supporting his two daughters. However, he didn’t believe he should be “subjected to paying his initial amount, especially since he’s retired.” Additionally, A-Rod pointed out that Scurtis was engaged and already had a child by her fiancé. Seems like Scurtis might’ve been after A-Rod’s money in the end. Either that, or she held a serious grudge against her ex-husband.

Scurtis’ true colors showed during a meditation session. Page Six reported that the couple had sat down to discuss lowering A-Rod’s payments. However, the situation had been tense-filled with A-Rod’s then fiancé, Jennifer Lopez, being present. Apparently, the superstar had been there to “help Rodriguez lower his payments by tens of thousands of dollars.” Obviously, Scurtis didn’t take Lopez’s involvement in her and her ex-husbands financial affairs lightly. Despite past negative comments she’s made in Lopez’s name, Scurtis remained vague and tight-lipped on the matter of the meditation session. Although, she did mention that “her x-husband’s girlfriends have been great towards her and their children, there’s been no problem. Until now.” Clearly, Scurtis didn’t like the change in money flow, especially after having grown accustomed to a certain lifestyle.

She’s Living Her Best Life

Even though Cynthia Scurtis might be receiving less from her spousal and child support, she still has a great life going. The Greek beauty and former baseball player have remained cordial for the sake of their daughters Natasha and Ella, whom they’re currently co-parenting. They still post family pictures of themselves hanging out with the kids. At least it gives their children some sense of normalcy.

Additionally, their family grew bigger when Scurtis found love again with Miami-based realtor and fitness guru Angel Nicholas. The two dated for a while and eventually married sometime in 2019. Despite secretly getting hitched, the two posted extremely sweet photos of their wedding day on their anniversary date and Mother’s Day. Additionally, Scurtis and Nicholas share a daughter of their own, named Camilla. Clearly, Cynthia Scurtis has officially moved on from Rodriguez.

She’s even taken up her ex-husband’s suggestion at finding work by going into the real estate business. Recently, the former high school teacher renovated and constructed several properties all throughout Miami over the years. In addition to flipping houses, Scurtis also has returned to her educational roots. She’s utilized her psychology degree to work as a volunteer for several women's support groups. Renovating homes and giving back to the community makes Scurtis sound like a well-rounded woman.

Cynthia Scurtis has grown over the years. More importantly, she doesn’t hold that much of a grudge toward her former husband anymore either. Scurtis has moved on with her life and started a new family with husband Angel Nicholas. She’s doing just fine these days.
