The Food Network is a happy place where fans can learn more about cooking and get into the Christmas spirit with a show like Holiday Wars. But there has also been some stars over the years who have gotten into trouble for their statements or actions.
Everyone remembers the Paula Deen scandal in 2013 when she admitted that she had used a racial slur. According to Delish.com, Deen said, "It was not only black men, it was black women … I would say they were slaves" about some of her employees, which was very disturbing. Things got worse for the Food Network star after that and the network cut ties with her.
Paula Deen's shows were often among the most popular shows on the network but that all changed. Deen has two sons, Jamie and Bobby, and people are curious about what they have been doing in the time since 2013.
Bobby And Jamie's Family Life
Both Bobby and Jamie Deen have been busy raising their kids over the past few years, joining the ranks of famous dads who fans can follow on social media.
Bobby Deen and his wife Claudia had triplets. According to People.com, they named the baby girls Amelia and Olivia and they gave the baby boy the name Linton.
The babies were born in October 2018 and they were almost four months early. The babies were going to remain in the hospital until early 2019 so they could be monitored and to make sure that everything was okay.
Paula Deen posted to her social media about the happy news, "I’m just going to share a little bit of what’s been going on at my house and why I’m kinda a little late on things. Bobby and Claudia’s babies came. She was 26 weeks and four days, so they’re pretty early. And if you didn’t know, Claudia was carrying triplets. To grandma, they’re just beautiful."
Jamie Deen is a father as well. According to Mashed.com, he and his wife Brooke have three sons: Matthew and Jack, and new baby Davis, who was born in April 2020.
On Paula Deen's website, Jamie wrote an essay about what it's like to be a father, and he wrote, "How do I explain the love and devotion I have for my boys? It’s tough to say; everyone loves something, but until you have a child, it’s hard to quantify. Your heart is outside your body. It’s the love Brooke and I have for each other packaged into two little boys who are growing at an alarming rate."
Bobby Got Healthier
Bobby Dean was drinking and eating too much, and he shared that he started living a healthier lifestyle. According to Southmag.com, he was inspired by an employee at his restaurant The Lady & Sons who was 19 years old and looked great. He felt that the best thing he could do was start working out and taking better care of himself.
Bobby told the publication, "It was taking away from the time I could spend in the restaurant. Instead of spending 18 hours a day in the restaurant, I was spending 17. They were still there, and I was gone to the gym.”
The Brothers' Cookbooks And Restaurant
The brothers have both put out cookbooks over the years, both solo and together. They worked on two cookbooks as a team: The Deen Bros. Take It Easy and The Deen Bros. Get Fired Up.
Jamie has a cookbook called Jamie Deen's Good Food that was published in 2013, and in 2014, Bobby put out Bobby Deen's Everyday Eats.
Bobby released a cookbook in 2013 called From Mama's Table to Mine that sounds like more of a personal project. As he told Southmag.com, he enjoys traditional Southern foods and he also wants to live healthier. He said, "I still love fried chicken and collard greens and cornbread and peach cobbler and sweet tea. Love it. But you have to have a balance. Food and exercise are medicine, and if you begin to exercise your body, you’ll gain a new relationship with food.”
Paula Deen started the family restaurant, The Lady & Sons, in January 1996 after she ran her catering business, The Bag Lady, from her house. Since 2003, the restaurant has been located at 102 W. Congress St. in Savannah, Georgia, according to the website, and Paula runs it with her two sons. It seems like it keeps them very busy.
