The famous rapper was born on February 15, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, however soon after her birth, she moved with her mother Holly Thomas to Houston. More specifically, Megan grew up in Houston's neighborhood South Park, where she lived until age 14 when she and her mom moved again, this time to Pearland, Texas. A big reason why Megan Thee Stallion ended up pursuing a career as a rapper is her mother. Holly Thomas was a rapper herself (under the name Holly-Wood), and growing up, Megan would look up to her. Instead of taking her to daycare, Holly would bring Megan to her recording sessions, and it was clear that one day, Megan would pursue a career in the industry. "Holly-Wood is the first female rapper I’ve ever known, I’ve ever saw, so I’m thinking like, Okay, yeah, this is normal. Everybody’s doing this. So when she would take me to the studio with her, she would think I’m in the next room doing little kid stuff, coloring, watching TV, and I’m really like ear to the door, thinking, Yeah, uh-huh I’ma do that, too. She used to let me listen to Biggie and Pimp C, so I never wanted to rap like my mom; I wanted to rap like them. 5 Megan Thee Stallion Started Rapping At A Young Age But Her Mom Told Her Not To Pursue A Career Until 21
While there's no doubt that Megan Thee Stallion was a talented rapper from a young age, her mother Holly really wanted Megan to wait before she pursues a serious career in the industry. This meant that Megan wasn't allowed to seriously pursue rapping until she turned 21. The rapper, of course, respected this, and today she is grateful to her family for making sure she stayed in school and graduated.
4 Megan Thee Stallion First Started Calling Herself A Rapper In College
Another reason why Megan The Stallion agreed to wait before seriously pursuing rapping is that she really wanted to make sure she perfected her skills.
"Growing up, I would steal her instrumentals. And she would be like, 'Megan, have you seen my CDs?' And I’m like, 'What are you talking about? No.' And I would be writing. I don’t know why I didn’t even tell anybody in high school that I wanted to rap. I just didn’t want to say anything, but when I got to college, I was just like, 'I’m a rapper.'"

3 Megan Thee Stallion's Father Died While She Was In High School
While not much is known about Megan Thee Stallion's father Joseph Pete Jr., she did reveal that he missed the first eight years of her life as he was behind bars. However, Megan only has good things to say about her late father:
"I saw how he treated my mom, and I saw how my Dad treated me. I have so many strong positive influences. I'm not going to lower my standards."
The rapper revealed that her father died in 2011 when she was a freshman in high school.

Whenever she's asked about her family, Megan always makes sure to let everyone know just how much of an inspiration the women the raised her are to her. The rapper even revealed that they played a major role in her graduating from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration:
"I want to get my degree because I really want my mom to be proud. She saw me going to school before she passed. I want my big mama to be proud. She saw me going to school before she passed. My grandmother that’s still alive used to be a teacher, so she’s on my butt about finishing school. I’m doing it for me, but I’m also doing it for the women in my family who made me who I am today."
