If you take a macro look at Hollywood, it seems like the vast majority of famous actors follow a certain set of rules that help them to remain stars. Sure, some actors bubble under the surface for a while before they make while others seem to become stars overnight. However, once those actors rise to fame, they go out of their way to play the Hollywood game.

In the case of Dax Shepard, he has found a unique path through the Hollywood jungle. Even though Dax Shepard has enjoyed enough success to become rich and famous, the fact that his career is so unique has made it hard for some people to keep track of him. That is a real shame too as in a lot of ways Shepard is among the most laudable celebrities around. With that in mind, it would be great if everyone was aware of what Dax Shepard has been up to since Parenthood ended.

Podcast Gold

Since early-2018, Dax Shepard and his close personal friend Monica Padman have hosted the popular podcast Armchair Expert. While there are many reasons for the podcast’s popularity, one of the biggest is the fact that both hosts seem so open. For example, during an episode of the podcast, Shepard made the courageous decision to talk about a recent relapse he’d suffered after many, many years of sobriety. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Shepard talked about the difficult decision to share his relapse with the public.

"I did not want to [speak out] at all. I had all kinds of bizarre fears. I have sponsors on my show — is that something that could cost me money financially? "But the number one thing I was afraid to lose was that I get so much esteem out of being someone who's vocally sober, and I have people who write me saying, 'I'm on month one,' or 'I'm week two,' and I love that," he continued. "It's my favorite thing about being in public. I was terrified I would lose that."

In the end, a discussion with a friend inspired Dax Shepard to overcome his fears about talking about his relapse. "I have a good friend that said, 'If your real goal is to help people, it's not very helpful that you're 16 years sober and married to Kristen Bell. That doesn't help people. In fact, that probably makes their life worse.'"

On top of Dax Shepards’ willingness to embarrass himself to set a good example, there are other reasons why he is such a great podcast host. For example, Shepard has a lovely relationship with his co-host Monica Padman and it is delightful to listen to them interact. On top of that, when talking with guests, Shepard does an extraordinary job of framing his questions through anecdotes from his life without making the conversation about himself. As a result, celebrities tend to be so much more open during Armchair Expert appearances than their average interviews that the podcast is a must-listen.
