Don't worry: it wasn't 'Clueless.' Now that that's out of the way, it's true that Alicia Silverstone did become disillusioned with Hollywood after acting in a specific film. But she wasn't always so jaded about fame.

As IMDb highlights, Alicia Silverstone's rise to fame began far before 'Clueless' was ever filmed.

The actress was in the '90s hit 'The Wonder Years,' was in a total of four Aerosmith music videos, and acted in numerous TV and movie productions. She also, of course, skyrocketed in popularity after 'Clueless' in 1995, which the actress recognized was iconic for its time.

But fans (and critics) haven't always been kind to the soft-spoken star. While her character Cher was outspoken and had plenty of attitude, Alicia is a bit quieter and has a tamer personality offscreen.

In fact, as Today reported, Alicia literally "stopped loving acting" after appearing in one specific movie: 1997's 'Batman & Robin.' As the actress explained, when she played Batgirl alongside George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell, tabloids began calling her out for something specific and hurtful: her body.

Tabloids featured headlines that called her "Fatgirl," Alicia recalled, saying, "That definitely wasn’t my favorite film-making experience." She was only 20 at the time, she noted, but the young actor knew it wasn't right for critics to make fun of her body.

After the success of 'Clueless,' Alicia had earned her place in the spotlight, but it wasn't kind. It didn't help that 'Batman & Robin' bombed at the box office, securing Alicia a "worst supporting actress" Razzie.

Wrapping up the film was a bit of a relief for Silverstone, who noted that she didn't exactly "come out like a warrior" to defend herself. Instead, Alicia finished the project and stepped away, saying that she "stopped loving acting for a very long time."

Of course, now that she's a mom and a seasoned actress with a platform, Alicia's not afraid to throw back and throw down when it comes to the haters.

And fortunately, Alicia didn't actually take a hiatus from acting. She had another movie role that same year and even acted on two TV series in the early 2000s. Later, Alicia would appear in a Scooby-Doo movie, 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul,' and 'The Baby-Sitters Club,' among other films and TV roles.

Things have really come full-circle for Alicia, though, as she starred in 'Bad Therapy' in 2020. While the film didn't earn great reviews from critics or fans, Alicia's embracing roles that propel her past Cher's iconic lines.

As a 40+ actress in Hollywood, Alicia continues to adapt and overcome, taking the roles that speak to her and not worrying about what critics or tabloid headlines have to say.
