When most people think about how it must feel to star in a popular TV show, they likely envision earning awards, huge paycheques, and adoring fans. While all of those things come into play for the most successful TV actors, there are certain aspects of the job that are far less ideal.

In the case of some successful actors, there is nothing they desire more than a role that will push them out of their comfort zone. For example, Tom Cruise’s willingness to train for days on end to pull off his own increasingly dangerous stunts has become the thing of Hollywood legend. Of course, Tom Cruise is a pretty unusual guy and most actors have things they simply don’t want to do on set.

Unfortunately for Schitt’s Creek’s Eugene Levy, he has revealed that he really didn’t like filming one of the show’s more memorable early sequences. Unlike some actors who’ve been forced to film scenes that have called for them to do something extreme, the scene Eugene didn’t like filming called for him to do something hilariously mundane.

Taking The World By Storm

These days, most shows that come out and fail to immediately find an audience are quickly canceled and fade into the history books. In the case of Schitt’s Creek, however, this show can aptly be compared to The Little Engine That Could since it was largely ignored at first but over time, it managed to become a huge hit.

Focused on a wealthy family that is forced to relocate to a tiny town where they don’t fit in, in theory, the show could have either cast the main characters or the locals in a negative light. Instead, virtually every moment of Schitt’s Creek’s six seasons were imbued with a huge amount of heart while also remaining funny at every turn. For that reason, it makes all the sense in the world that the show took the Emmy Awards by storm in 2020 when it swept the show’s seven major comedy awards.

Hitting the Mark

For longtime Schitt’s Creek fans, seeing the show become a sensation in recent years has been a welcome change of pace. That said, even people that love the show have to realize that its rise to popularity was an extremely unlikely one in a lot of ways. After all, the show had a small budget and it spent years on end airing on tiny networks. On top of that, the show’s characters easily could have missed the mark.

If you are looking for a Schitt’s Creek character that easily could have been extremely annoying, you only need to consider Moira Rose. Over the top in a lot of ways, if Moira wasn’t portrayed by a comedy legend like Catherine O'Hara she likely would have been unbearable.

On top of Catherine O’Hara, Schitt’s Creek’s cast also included another comedy god in Eugene Levy, and Chris Elliott is also held in extremely high regard. When it comes to the remainder of the show’s main cast, everyone else was virtually unknown before the show aired but they all proved to very talented. On top of the individual comedy chops of every Schitt’s Creek cast member, they also got along extremely well behind the scenes which comes across during every episode.

Driving Dad Crazy

As anyone who has ever worked with their family members will no doubt already realize, dealing with your kin in the workplace can be very difficult, to say the very least. After all, it can be hard not to bring your everyday dynamic into work, which is a place in which people need to be a lot more professional. On top of that, any issues that come up at work can easily cause strife at home.

Despite how complicated working with family can be, there also is a positive side to that scenario as well. For example, in a lot of cases, people know they can rely on members of their family when the going gets tough. On top of that, when you work with family you can use the things you’ve learned about them outside of work to have fun at the office.

When it comes to Schitt’s Creek’s Eugene and Dan Levy, it is clear that the father and son pair are very close. On the other hand, a lot of fans of the show don’t know that at least once Dan used his knowledge of his dad to pull a prank on him.

As Schitt’s Creek’s head writer, Dan Levy had the power of the pen and in one case he used it to mess with his dad. Fully aware that Eugene Levy has an incredible head of hair which he takes great pride in, Dan wrote a Schitt’s Creek scene in which his dad’s character had fluid dripping on him in his sleep. While filming that sequence, Eugene had to have his hair soaked which completely messed up his usual hairdo. To Dan Levy’s great delight, his practical joke on his dad definitely worked as Eugene later spoke about how much he disliked filming that scene on The Tonight Show.
