Sometimes controversial Snoop Dogg and seemingly perfect Martha Stewart first bonded over a bowl of mashed potatoes when she invited him onto The Martha Stewart Show way back in 2008.

Says Martha of the encounter: "What a weird couple we were."

Snoop totally agreed, saying that Martha was a "pioneer" doing the unthinkable by asking the likes of rappers onto daytime television. But it was a natural fit, with Snoop proclaiming: "You know cooking with Martha just seemed like the right space to be in."

Snoop made one or two more appearances and The Martha Stewart Show. Then in 2015, they reconnected at a Comedy Central roast of singer Justin Bieber.

And whammo, just a year later they were both starring in VH1s Martha and Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party. They were indeed an odd couple, but it worked big time.

That Roast With A Contact High

At the Justin Bieber Roast in 2015, Snoop and Martha sat next to one another. And Martha inhaled some secondary weed smoke. When she got up to do her bit, she was high and stole the show.

Snoop told Howard Stern that he accidentally got her high on contact smoke.

"By the time she gets up there to tell her jokes, she's whacked out of her head . . . [and] high as a motherf**ker. And she went up there and killed it." Martha admitted as much when she appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

And a bond was formed, "She was the funniest 'roaster' that night," says Snoop. "I knew I wanted to be alongside this lady for the rest of my life." He also called her "the big sister I never had."

And Stewart was totally on board for the big sister gig, saying "I like his laid back energy. I like his outspokenness. I like his sense of timing." And then came the ultimate compliment from the diva-domestic queen when she said, "I actually like to watch him cook."

It was once said of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers that she gave him sex appeal and he gave her class. Well, it's kind of like that with Martha and Snoop. She's the class act. He a sexy rapper. They do crazy things together, like a spoof video of Titantic or making an outrageous elevator entrance at a Golden Globes after-party.

People are surprised by Stewart's tolerance of Snoop's pretty much nonstop smoking of pot. She has said "So someone smokes marijuana? Big deal." And she went on to point out the people die of cigarette smoking, but not from pot-smoking, So there.

Martha And Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party

After that night at JBieb's roast, VH1  came up with the idea for Martha and Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party. The "pot" is intentional. The chemistry and affinity between the two made the show a surefire hit.

Says Martha: "I originally said 'If Snoop will do it, I'll do it." Well, Snoop said yes and the show began airing in 2016. Nobody was surprised when it became the highest-rated show on the channel. And it got an Emmy nomination in 2017 in the outstanding hosts in a reality TV show category. And it worked because of Snoop and Martha's contrasting personalities and how they played off one another.

Said Snoop: "You just put two people together that love people . . . [and you] attract the energy of other people."

It was often hilarious and outrageous, as Martha and Snoop cooked away with A-listers like Matthew McConaughey and 50 Cent. If the celebrity made a mess of it, all the better.

In its third season, it became Martha and Snoop's Potluck Challenge, with celebrities competing against one another. And what about season four? Who knows. 2020 was one weird year.
