Before Ciara would fall head over heels in love with NFL star Russell Wilson, whom she has since married and welcomed two children with, the R&B singer had a lot of bad luck as far as her love life was concerned.

In the midst of working on her self-titled fifth studio album, Ciara, in 2013, the mother of three, who was once romantically linked to 50 Cent, started dating rap newcomer Future, who was relatively known for his close ties with fellow rapper Drake along with his 2012 breakout hit "Turn On the Lights."

The two collaborated on the single “Where You Go,” which was produced by one of their go-to producers Mike Will Made-It — and it wasn’t long after that when CiCi discovered she was expecting a baby.

During her pregnancy, however, multiple reports claimed Future had allegedly cheated on Ciara with a string of women, and while the “Goodies” star tried to put on a brave face in public, following the birth of their son Future Jr, she called it quits with her ex-beau. Things have been rocky between the two ever since, but where exactly does their relationship stand today?

Ciara Moves On From Future

It was confirmed in August 2014, just a few months after the birth of their son, that Ciara had called it quits with Future — and the cheating allegations were said to have been the cause of their not-so-shocking breakup.

While the “Mask Off” rapper had popped the question back in October 2013, having hoped to marry Ciara the following year, things about Future’s private life concerning his alleged relationship with other women certainly wasn’t going to be overlooked.

To make matters worse, the alleged infidelity is said to have taken place during the time that CiCi was pregnant with their son, which just makes the entire situation that much worse — but trust and believe that Ciara was not going to stay with an alleged cheater.

During an interview with Huffington Post, Future seemed very much in denial that cheating could have had anything to do with his split from Ciara, adding that he felt as if they had simply grown apart.

“We grew apart. When you the man, you wanna make certain decisions for yourself and she wanna make certain decisions,” he stressed.

“And I feel like the best route for me is to make more music, to go back to Atlanta and go back to my roots. Sometimes the lady don’t see what you see. That was a hard situation but at the end of the day it wasn’t about that. I called off [the engagement] long before any cheating rumors came out.”

Interesting, because in 2020, while Ciara has always remained quiet about what really happened in the months leading up to her split from Future, she sat down for a chat with Jada Pinkett-Smith on her chat show Red Table Talk where she strongly alluded to Future breaking her heart.

"I would have moments, I'd be in the shower, crying," she recalled about her time shortly after giving birth, which was also the time she allegedly learned about Future’s double life. "I'd be crying because I am not in the happiest place and it hurts what I'm going through.”

She then went on to say, “The one thing I fear in life is wasting my life, wasting my time, I really fear that because you realize that time does not stop and it will be the worst scenario to stay in a situation that's just not healthy, not going to get any better.

“I realized I have to start making different decisions, period. Knowing what you don't want is really important. It creates clarity.”

Clearly, it wasn’t a situation where both parties simply grew apart — Ciara makes it very clear that something bad happened in the relationship that led her to feel sad for days on end.

The two haven’t seen eye-to-eye since their split either. On numerous occasions, the “Oh” hitmaker has sued her baby daddy, with her most recent lawsuit asserting that the father of six had slandered her name on social media and interviews.

Future had previously claimed that Ci had been using their son for publicity stunts while his visitation rights to see Future Jr were very limited — a claim which Ciara has strongly denied.

In December 2020, she filed a $15 million lawsuit for libel and slander, with a source close to the singer telling People, “She just wants what’s best for her and her baby. She is a really great mom. Baby Future is attached to her and a super smart kid. She’s really patient and loving with him.”

Ciara has since married Wilson, with whom she shares two children, Sienna and Win.
