For anyone who grew up in the '90s, or has a love of '90s-era films, 'Little Rascals' was iconic. The group of misfit kids and their misadventures was charming, funny, and featured a ton of cute kids (and a dog).
It's been a long time since those little rascals were actually little, though. Which got fans wondering, whatever happened to all those child stars once the movie was done filming?
Then recently, fans were reminded of little Darla in an Instagram post from Britney Spears. Britney herself commented on the way 'Darla' always looked into the camera while filming (which is a total no-no), the same way Brit did on 'Mickey Mouse Club.'
And after seeing how adorable the child who played Darla was back then, fans of the '90s film were curious to see whether she's still recognizable today.
Not every child star has the same experience, as fans already know. Stars like Drew Barrymore never burned out, while the likes of Haley Joel Osment often find their projects and passions change over time.
So fans are understandably curious about where the cast of 'Little Rascals' is today.
When it comes to Brittany Ashton Holmes, who played Darla, the answer might be somewhat disappointing for fans.
Brittany is 31 now, and though she had a handful of projects post-'Little Rascals,' she never really cracked Hollywood. IMDb lists seven acting credits, including an appearance on 'Ellen' in 1995, a few TV movies, and an appearance on one episode of 'Red Shoe Diaries.'
Brittany's last project was in 2014, and it was a TV short called 'We Hate Paul Revere.' After that, the former child star seemed to disappear. She was five when the movie was filmed, and later went on to finish school and earn a degree in political science, ditching her on-screen past.
But in 2014, the film's 20-year anniversary, the cast reunited for a photoshoot, and Brittany showed up. It took some doing, noted HuffPost, as Brittany was reluctant to join her former cast-mates. She had "gone off the grid" and was "guarded," but eventually acquiesced.
The photos posed her and Bug Hall (AKA Alfalfa) together in outfits reminiscent of what they wore in the movie. And while Bug's hair is decidedly well-behaved these days, and Brittany's chubby cheeks are gone, there is some resemblance to their former characters.
But after the photos were done, Brittany effectively disappeared again. She seems to have no interest in fame, and her social media accounts aren't publicized the way many child stars' are.
But for the woman formerly known as Darla, it's probably a good thing; fans are still obsessed, so it might best if she stays out of the spotlight.
