Dennis Quaid has enjoyed an amazing career and relatively few controversies throughout his time in Hollywood. But the same can't be said of his brother, Randy Quaid.

Dennis is one of four children; Randy is the eldest, and the brothers have two younger half-siblings, Buddy and Brandy. While Buddy and Brandy aren't in the spotlight much, Randy and Dennis have often supported one another's projects in film.

The two were even in one movie together back in the day; 1980's 'The Long Riders.' But those good times are long gone today.

In 2010, Randy Quaid faced felony vandalism charges after damaging property and "squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned," noted Burlington Free Press.

And back in 2011, Dennis was having all the feels about his brother's legal troubles, reported People. At the time, Randy and his wife were on the run. When asked about the fact that his sibling was fleeing the law, Dennis said, "I love my brother... That’s all I can say. I love my brother and I miss my brother. That’s all I’m going to say."

Of course, Randy is far from the only celebrity (A-list or otherwise) who's had legal troubles. Robert Downey Jr., for example, has spent time in jail. Comedian Dane Cook even had to send his own brother to jail for crimes his sibling committed.

But Randy's case is unique because not only did he flee the state after charges were filed, but he also attempted to obtain Canadian citizenship (through his wife's Canadian heritage) and was scheduled to be deported from Canada when he voluntarily left. He was subsequently arrested in Vermont but was later released.

As Burlington Free Press noted, Randy maintained that he was innocent of all charges, and stated that he hoped to settle down in Vermont with his wife after the court case was resolved.

Fast forward to 2015, and Randy and his wife Evi were free, even vacationing in California, where they could have been arrested based on an apparently outstanding extradition request.

Randy even appeared in a couple of roles following his release from prison; he's been an announcer on 'Tosh.0' since 2017 and was in 2018's 'All You Can Eat.'

That doesn't mean he and Dennis are pals again, though; in 2017, Randy criticized his brother's involvement in the film 'A Dog's Purpose' after footage emerged that apparently showed that the animals on set weren't being treated well, noted People Magazine. Dennis defended the film, saying the video had been doctored, but Randy took to social media to blast his bro and suggest that someone should "waterboard my brother and see how he likes it."

Sources suggest that the brothers haven't spoken in 18 years or more, and others blame Randy's wife as the source of the familial tension. Regardless, it appears that the Quad brothers are not close, and they aren't likely to be any time soon, either.
