The 1982 film 'E.T.' won hearts all over the world, and it quickly became a cult classic. The main characters in the film were E.T., of course, and Elliott, the boy who befriends and later rescues him.

By now, most '90s babies know all about Henry Thomas, the kid who played Elliott in 'E.T.' and the fact that he's still chilling in Hollywood these days. In fact, he's a series regular on 'The Haunting of Bly Manor' and was previously on 'The Haunting of Hill House.'

Fans also know what happened to Gertie, Elliott's little sister: she grew up to become powerhouse actress Drew Barrymore, whose resume is longer than most of the other actors from the movie put together.

But the eldest sibling, 14-year-old Michael, was played by then-16-year-old Robert MacNaughton. Sci-fi fans may not recognize his name, and for good reason: MacNaughton has since retired from the limelight -- not that he was ever really into it, anyway. After all, the child actors apparently didn't make much off of the blockbuster film.

Before 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,' Robert did have a few smaller parts on TV. He was in a handful of TV films, and he continued acting on the small screen up until 1988. His other film projects were 'I Am the Cheese' in 1983, and then two minor parts in 2015.

In between, MacNaughton retired from acting, noted USA Today, at the 20th anniversary of the movie's release. USA Today also confirms that MacNaughton was a theater actor for a time, before 'giving up' acting and becoming a mail handler for the postal service.

Back in 2002, Robert did have fond memories of the film, elaborating that "It's a fable. It's got universal themes that everyone can relate to." In fact, 'Michael' has even shared the movie with his son, who he said called it "the movie where Daddy pretends to be a little boy."

Of course, that's back when Robert's son was four; now that little boy is older than his dad was when he starred in 'E.T.' Robert also has three stepsons, and his wife is Bianca Hunter, an actress with a handful of films on her IMDb resume.

What's even more interesting about Robert MacNaughton's life today is that he has Drew Barrymore to thank for it, according to IMDb. Robert and Bianca met when Drew set them up on a blind date, they were married in 2012, and the rest is history!

Robert also keeps in touch with Henry, and it seems like 'E.T.' is still very much part of his life, if his posing his 'Michael' action figure all over NYC is any indication! Even Robert's wife is a fan of her hubby's 'E.T.' days, even if he's retired and on to other projects now.

In short, fans can rest easy knowing that their favorite on-screen '90s family is just as close as ever!
