There are plenty of controversial figures coming out from TikTok, but the so-called 'Island Boys' were something else. The month was October 2021, and they were taking over the internet. They had shot to internet stardom thanks to the video of them "freestyling" by the pool, rocking diamond teeth, distinct hairstyles, and tons of tattoos.

"'Cause I'm an island boy, and I've been trying to make it / Oh, I'm an island boy / Ayy, Imma just island boy, I'm just island boy," they rap with such a distinctive appearance, making them even more recognizable and turning into an internet meme.

6 The Island Boys Are 20-Year-Old Twin Brothers With A Joint Net Worth Of $500,000

The Island Boys are 20-year-old twin brothers from Florida named Franky and Alex Venegas. They go by the rap names of Kodiyakredd and Flyysoulja, respectively, and the latter was the one who started the "Island Boys" collective. The twin brothers hail from West Palm Beach, Florida, from a humble beginning. When they were only six, their father passed away, leaving the Venegas brothers at the hand of their mother.

The Venegas brothers grew up in an uneasy condition. They admitted during an interview that they had a few run-ins with the laws at the age of 13 for burglaries and robberies, ending up at different juvenile centers. Their musical journey began in 2020, when they released a few singles like "9ine" and "Smoke" to respective success. According to Techie + Gamers, the pair has a collective net worth of $500,000.

5 The Island Boys And Cultural Appropriation

The Island Boys are loud and noisy, so it's only natural if their presence has somehow attracted a bunch of haters. The twin brothers are of Cuban heritage, and they've been proudly representing their background during interviews, but songs like "Wicked Way" uses a lot of N-words, prompting fans to call them out for cultural appropriation.

With that being said, it's not the only time the Venegas brothers have endured criticism during their short-lived careers. During their first Miami concert last year in October, they suffered their first rough outing at LVI nightclub while performing their overnight hit song "Island Boy," as they were booed off the stage.

4 The Island Boy's Rental Home Was Once Raided By SWAT

More recently, the twin brothers found themselves in another problem with the police. As TMZ reported in February 2022, the twin brothers' rental home in Florida became a crime scene, after a SWAT team issued a search warrant in search of a murder suspect of a fatal drive-by of an 8-year-old girl. While neither of the twins was arrested, their associate Andrew James Thomas, who happened to be the prime suspect, was home during the raid.

The twins' manager said that their clients didn't know that their longtime friend could be responsible for such a cruel act. In a statement to TMZ, they "just knew him as a quiet kid, and he would come and hang out and do his thing and go back to whatever he got going on but we had no clue about any of these allegations toward him."

3 The Island Boys On Social Media

Since their "Island Boy" video was viewed by millions on the internet, the brothers have been enjoying quite a popularity on social media for quite some time. They're mostly active on TikTok, amassing over 5.7 million followers and 118.3 million likes on @flyysouljah handle in addition to 3 million followers and 42.1 million likes on @kodiyakredd.

"When I was locked up I had a lot of people were trying to be rappers, so I'm like, f**k it, I'm gonna dive into the game," Alex said in an interview with Adam22's No Jumper. "The only thing that's good for me is robbing, which is not good, or rapping."

2 The Island Boys Vs. The Paul Brothers

The Island Boys' presence on social media has somewhat been ridiculed by many, including top names in the entertainment industry like Jake and Logan Paul. During an appearance on Logan's Impaulsive podcast, the boys stormed off after a hostile exchange with one of the podcast's hosts, George Janko, after he weighed his financial advice on them.

"I don’t need financial advice when I probably make more money than you. Why don’t you go talk to somebody else about that?" one of the boys said before walking off the set, "You know I'm thuggin', right?"
