Ever since Dove Cameron got her start on Disney, she's had a loyal fan following. The star became a household name while acting as both Liv and Maddie on 'Liv and Maddie,' and soon branched out into other Disney projects.

Of course, while she was on 'Liv and Maddie,' she dated her co-star Ryan McCartan. But the relationship fizzled out before the show concluded, and Dove found love somewhere else.

In 2016, while they were working on 'Descendants 2,' Dove and Thomas Doherty first met. Thomas played Harry Hook, while Dove played the daughter of Maleficent, who winds up turning good rather than remaining evil.

Off the set, though, Dove and the Scottish actor were clearly an ideal match. As all of Dove's nearly 40 million followers saw, she and Thomas always looked loved-up and seemed to have the perfect relationship.

But as Dove recently announced, the two broke things off in October of 2020. Only, that's just created even more interest in just who the actor is and how he wound up courting a Disney princess for four years.

The actress, who is now worth a cool $3 million, has been under the Disney umbrella for a while now, starting in 2013. Before that, she got her start on stage around 2007.

Thomas' origin story is a bit different. He grew up in Scotland and pursued his education at a performing arts school, studying music theater. The Daily Record explained that Doherty started out as a waiter in Edinburgh, and then compared his rise to Disney to that of Zac Efron's.

At the time, Thomas was slated to appear in 'The Lodge,' a Disney UK production, so early fans of his were all aflutter. And of course, the role of "cheeky Scots mountain biker" was perfect for Doherty.

And while many seem to think that Dove is at the height of her career, Thomas may still be working his way up. 'Descendants' isn't a career-topper by any means, but it did lead to other opportunities for the actor.

Despite his split from Dove, the two are apparently still on good terms, as neither party has scrubbed photos of their ex from social media.

His IMDb resume also includes a CW show ('Legacies'), a few episodes on 'High Fidelity,' and perhaps best of all, the 'Gossip Girl' 2021 reboot. Yes, fans can't wait to see Thomas as Maximus Wolfe in a starring role on the show. It's bound to be epic.

The show is in pre-production, so fans won't have to go much longer without seeing Doherty on the small screen.
