For the longest time, most people seemed to think that celebrities have it made in just about every way, which makes sense to a certain degree. After all, the top actors tend to make a fortune, they often are very good-looking, and people bend over backward for them. However, documentaries like Framing Britney Spears have allowed people to understand that there is a dark side to fame that they never considered before.Even though more people understand how difficult fame can be than at any other time in the past, there are still several aspects of being a celebrity that rarely gets considered. For example, when you are a star it can place a rather harsh spotlight on the other people in your life from time to time.

Thankfully for Ray Romano and all of the people in his personal life, his family hasn’t done anything outrageous enough to find themselves in the unforgiving public eye. While that is a great thing, it is unfortunate that a lot of people know next to nothing about Ray Romano’s longtime wife.

A Lasting Relationship

Whenever a rich and famous actor of either gender gets married, it can be easy for some observers to assume that their significant other was interested in them due to their money. After all, a lot of stars have had to give up millions of dollars when they got divorced. Thankfully for Ray Romano, he never has to worry about his wife’s motivations since they met long before the world learned his name.

When Ray Romano was in his mid-20s, he got a job as a bank teller. While the idea of Romano working at a bank seems like an odd fit, that job did great things for Ray as he met his future wife Anna Scarpulla when they both were tellers. Evidently interested in Scarpulla, Romano waited until he wasn’t working at the bank anymore to ask her out so things wouldn’t get too awkward if he was rejected. Thankfully, Scarpulla agreed to begin dating Romano at that time which means that she got involved with Ray when he was unemployed.

Roughly four years after Ray Romano and Anna Scarpulla first met, they tied the knot in 1987 and they have been together ever since. Before too long, the couple began welcoming their children into the world when their daughter Alexandra was born in 1990. In the years that followed, the couple had twin boys in 1993, and their youngest son was born in 1998.

Anna’s Perspective

Just like most comedians, Ray Romano has made it a habit to make his fans laugh by making fun of things that have gone on in his personal life. Of course, Romano’s tendency to make jokes about his life hit an all-time peak when Everybody Loves Raymond was on the air from 1996 until 2005. After all, it was well-known that Romano would routinely tell the show’s writers about various things that were going on in his private life.

Of course, Ray Romano’s wife Anna Scarpulla has gotten used to the comedian and actor making the world laugh by putting aspects of their relationship on display. While talking to The Las Vegas Sun in 1997, Romano made it clear that Scarpulla typically deals with his brand of humor well. “I talk a lot about being married and being tired and not having sex. She’s fine with it.” Of course, Scarpulla is a human being just like the rest of us so it makes sense that she gets bothered by her husband’s jokes from time to time. During the aforementioned interview, Romano jokingly explained how he deals with it when a joke upsets his wife. “Whenever she has a problem, I tell her to go cry on a bag of money.”

Anna’s Career And Keeping Ray Grounded

During a 2019 Time interview, Ray Romano explained that his wife Anna Scarpulla doesn’t care about the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. According to Romano, his wife’s perspective on his career has been a key element of their relationship succeeding and Ray keeping his feet on the ground.

“I’m in show business. You can’t not be a bit of a narcissist and not need attention to be in that business.” “So, the reason this works is because she is a person who (a) doesn’t need attention and (b) can understand how I feel about her, even though it’s hard for me to outwardly express that. She’s the hero here.”

Just because Anna Scarpulla isn’t transfixed by the trappings of fame, doesn’t mean that she isn’t interested in the entertainment business herself. In fact, Scarpulla has worked in front of the camera and behind it in the past. For example, Scarpulla appeared during an episode of Patricia Heaton Parties, she provided her voice to the video game Yo-kai Watch 3, and she starred the short film Quand s'approfondit l'hiver. On top of those roles, Scarpulla worked as a cinematographer on a different short film and an episode of a TV show called Class.
