According to Insider.com, Addison had 1 million TikTok followers in October of 2019, and Addison realized that staying at college wasn't the right decision. Addison said, "I remember that's when it changed for me. I knew I wanted to take it more seriously and expand it to other platforms. I uploaded a video to YouTube and got really active on Instagram" and she said goodbye to Louisiana State University.

Addison shared with Interview Magazine that while she didn't predict the amount of fame and attention that she has had in the past few years, she did want to be in "entertainment." Addison explained to the publication, "I’ve always been interested in entertainment, and I love speaking and movies and posting and things like that. I always knew that I was going to do something in the realm of entertainment or acting, but I didn’t necessarily know that it would come at this speed. I was in college last year studying journalism, and then this all started happening last December."

According to Seventeen.com, Addison called Louisiana before moving to L.A. and it sounds like she was a happy, typical teenager before she found TikTok.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, "When I first downloaded TikTok it was kind of a joke. I was babysitting a lot of middleschoolers at the time and they all had TikTok. That was kind of like the age group that used the app at the time. I posted a video as a joke and it actually did very well." She said that this made her see that "you can actually get somewhere with this app."

Addison's Acting Aspirations

With her new movie He's All That being talked about absolutely everywhere, it makes sense that Addison Rae is often interviewed about this role.

In an interview with Elle, Addison Rae shared that she always thought that living in L.A. and working as an actress would be amazing, but she wasn't sure how practical it was. That's why she thought that journalism would be a good career path.

Addison said, “Coming from a small town... I feel like a lot of people don’t normally hear someone say they want to go to Hollywood and be an actress. That’s not a very common thing. Or maybe it is something that people say, but don’t really get the chance to do. I felt like it was unattainable at the time. So I thought, my way in is to go study journalism, and I can be on TV still, but in a way where I could get a degree and then make it in a little more traditional [way]. Then I got super lucky with TikTok, and was so blessed with the chance to move to L.A.”
